Jet Car Stunts is an exceptional arcade driving game in which (as you might guess) you drive a jet-powered car through a series of stunt-inducing tracks.

This app makes terrific use of the iPhone and iPod Touch interface, with four customizable touch-screen buttons (accelerate and brake/reverse, and jet engine and hand-brake/air-brake) and accelerometer control for both steering and (when you're airborne, which is often) your pitch and roll. The game is split between two different but equally well-developed modes: 11 speed-heavy Time Trial levels with more traditional race-type tracks, and 25 architecturally inspired Platforming levels that focus on topsy-turvy, acrobatic stunts. In both modes, you're trying to reach checkpoints to maintain forward progress, managing a finite supply of jet fuel, and the game requires a lot of trial and error to learn each track (although levels begin with a "fly-through," which helps).

Jet Car Stunts features online achievements and leaderboards through Open Feint, but it lacks multiplayer. And while the graphics are impressive (and especially smooth on newer devices), the lower-res polygon tracks can make it difficult to judge distances, which only adds to the game's steadily advancing difficulty curve. That said, though, Jet Car Stunts has some of the most satisfying controls and inspiring gameplay of any driving app yet. If you like the promise of this game's title, the game itself won't let you down.
