Jamd is a free news application that's tailored to celebrity pursuits. Nicely designed, it lists featured articles, breaking news, and popular Hollywood stories that you can send to friends. Since this is a Getty project, photos are the real draw. In the top right corner of each story is a "stack" of images related to the story. Clicking the thumbnail takes you to a carefully arranged pile of digital images that can be pinched, expanded, rotated, and dragged around the screen. With another click to a button at the top of the application, the photos snap back to their original arrangement.
For basic instantaneous photo-surfing, Jamd's image stacks are a fun and refreshing variation. However, since images are being pulled from Getty's sprawling database, there tend to be duplicates. With photo management all but naught, users can't yet delete individual images or bookmark favorite stories or photos for later reference--short of e-mailing stacks to themselves.
