"Really Useful Program"
Version: JOCR 1
Pros
Simple to use
Great chartacter recognition performanceCons
Perhaps a window with intructions on how to use it would help - I had fogotten and panicked that it wasn't working - when all I had to do was remember - which took trial and error and time!

"Does what is says on the tin!"
Version: JOCR 1
Pros
Simple and easy to use.
Capture a window (or region) of a document (e.g. pdf) which is open on your computer screen. Then press one button to do the OCR. The text is available in notepad/Word to use as you like!Cons
Program did *not* work with Word 2000, but did work with Word 2003.
Summary
I've always wanted a free program that can capture text directly from documents open on my screen (e.g. pdf document), rather than having to:
1. Print the document
2. Scan the document
3. Do an optical character recognition on the scanned image of the document with a program.
This program does it all in one process! You can then use the text as you like, for example obtain an online translation of the text with a online program such as Google translation.
Program also coped well with French language characters.
I?ve only used it a few dozen times but seems quite stable.
For me it's a winner! -
