Publisher's Description

From JES Software:

JES Deinterlacer deals with interlaced QuickTime movies in many ways: deinterlace, PAL-NTSC conversion, inverse telecine, reinterlace, change field dominance, general standards conversion (change size, frame rate, speed, interlace), crop, shift, simple color correction, recompress, deinterlaced playback using OpenGL (options: full screen, slow motion, loop, play selection only, adjust gamma, recent list, playlists, thumbnail navigation, chapter editor) horizontal flip, vertical flip, skip every nth frame, works seamlessly with QuickTime export size options, accelerated with SSE and Altivec, full nclc/gamma support handles MPEG movies (requires QuickTime MPEG2 playback component and possibly MPEG Streamclip) handles AVCHD (requires utility like VoltaicHD to convert to Photo-JPEG).

    "Totally LOVE this app"

    August 18, 2009  |   By jayayvee56

    Version: JES Deinterlacer 3.5.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I use this to put old VHS videos to DVD that are pretty much unavailable any other way than by old tapes. Tried the tools available in FinalCut to clean up and de-interlace, and was very dissatisfied with the results and time they took to achieve. Enter JES Deinterlacer: it is truly amazing! Speedily creates superior progressive output to FC's Compressor, and coupled with JES Video Cleaner, the results are literally astounding. Factor in the cost of these apps, and I can't say enough good about them.

Other than having to trash the prefs files more than occasionally, the only real drawback to using this software successfully is that you must first READ through the included help files, and then be willing to EXPERIMENT to get the results you want. If you're unwilling, or unable to grasp these concepts, consider that you should probably be doing something else instead, and not messing with anything like Final Cut Studio (or any other serious video apps) to begin with.

    "The Best PAL-NTSC Conversion software"

    September 19, 2008  |   By katz515

    Version: JES Deinterlacer 3.3.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I happened to google this software when I was editing TV commercial for Nigeria based on NTSC original footage.

For the past 5 years, I was looking for the right conversion software. I tried so many softwares.

JES Deinterlacer was the best NTSC-PAL conversion software I ever used.

So far, I've only tried NTSC to PAL conversion based on NTSC DV QuickTime movie file. But I'm very happy with the result.

Only thing that I had to change was to change "Block match threshold" to 400, and check "Remove jaggies" and then I left everything else as default.

And I got amazing result from it.

I recommend this software 100% for NTSC-PAL conversion.

    "Great!!"

    Summary

In a pinch I tried JES-D for converting PAL footage to NTSC. Now it's my main program for conversions in more. Only downside, I kept crashing the app when trying to batch multiple jobs on a MacIntel.

    "Excellent Work"

    Version: JES Deinterlacer 3.0

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Except for having to re-set the output file and no drag and drop support, this is a great utility. I was able to create quasi 720p video from my 1080i footage after a number of experiments. A really nice piece of work.

    "Inverse Telecine doesn't work"

    November 15, 2005  |   By Hannibal Fortune

    Version: JES Deinterlacer 2.7.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I always get the same errors when trying to use inverse telecine to recreate 24fps film rate from 30fps captures. It will say that the "top field first" option is wrong and I should try the opposite setting. Except the opposite setting results in the same message! There are only two settings, after all. On the extremely rare occasion I don't get that message, JES quits soon after and doesn't produce any usable files. Maybe this works fine for simple deinterlacing, but I just can't recommend it for inverse telecine. However, if I only needed simple deinterlacing, I would use something like ffmpegX. That has a deinterlace option and would let me encode to Xvid or h.264 in the same pass, so there's no additional loss from later re-encoding. As of right now, I have to sadly say that there's still no inverse telecine solution for the Mac, which is a damn shame for a platform that's supposed to be so video-friendly.

    "This program rocks!"

    June 21, 2005  |   By Joe Redifer

    Version: JES Deinterlacer 2.7.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I woild always see this program listed on the Versiontracker main page as I scanned for other updates and I would think to myself "Why would anyone want an standalone app that simply deinterlaces?" Well I finally tried it out and it does much more than that. I really like converting interlaced QT's into progressive 60fps QT's. That is my favorite feature, butit can do other cool stuff as well, so it seems. The interface is a bit funky, but it's not too difficult to figure out.

    "A terrific toolset!"

    April 20, 2005  |   By Matthew Hills

    Version: JES Deinterlacer 2.6.5

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
While the interface is a little funky (there is an assortment of tools packed into a dialog box), this is an excellent set of tools to have in the video editor's toolbox. I've found the de-interlace option to be a great first step in doing sports slow-motion replays (iMovie doesn't de-interlace, so you'll get blurring from the interlaced frames in slow-motion).

    "Great for SFX"

    August 24, 2004  |   By justamacuser

    Version: JES Deinterlacer 2.6.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Been using it on and off for some time now. Takes a bit to get used to, but does well what it's supposed to do.
I've used it primarily to create flicker-free "slow motion" movies from DV material (slowing down a camera spin, or turning interlace video to "progressive scan" for use in "variable speed" effects in Final Cut Pro)

    "Well Done!"

    February 5, 2004  |   By IIci

    Version: JES Deinterlacer 2.3.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Tried it out on a DV clip from PAL to NTSC and vice versa works very well compared to the Hardware standards converter I use.

Maybe someone out there (maybe me!) will e-mail you a nicer icon to glam up the project.
