"It's better than the earlier version, but still bad."

March 14, 2011  |  By tfmemory

 |  Version: Internet Explorer (Windows 7 32-bit) 9 RC

Pros

Look smart and precise.

Cons

It's very slowwww....
It even slows down my computer, and suspended with HTTP5
Had better use Chrome or firefox, they're way better in everything.

"Amazing upgrade for IE"

March 14, 2011  |  By keith42

 |  Version: Internet Explorer (Windows 7 32-bit) 9 RC

Pros

IE has gone from the bottom of the barrel to the very top with this version.

Cons

Hmmm....there must be some but I think of any right now.

Summary

The most private browswer (doens't phone home or download secret updates) is now the fastest.

"It's not an improvement."

March 14, 2011  |  By dogsoldier46

 |  Version: Internet Explorer (Windows 7 32-bit) 9 RC

Pros

I haven't found any so far.

Cons

Maybe this isn't an IE problem, but web pages continually nag about needing to download Adobe Flash Player. I don't recall that being so much of a problem with previous versions. My daughter hates it.

Summary

It seems OK, but it's definitely not an improvement over previous versions. I wish MS would completely redesign IE instead of making all of the these relatively small incremental changes.

"Two years, too late."

March 14, 2011  |  By purewitz78

 |  Version: Internet Explorer (Windows 7 32-bit) 9 RC

Pros

Some things are better in 9, than in previous versions. Best IE ever, but thats not saying much.

Cons

Most new features (If not all.) are what Chrome and Firefox have had for two years ago. IE9 RC also has issues with services like Netflix. Plus there are know security risk issues with IE that Microsoft is lying about.

Summary

If you're an IE fan its the best IE ever, but if you're using Chrome or Firefox just stick with them. They are 100 times better than IE will ever be, Plus Chrome and Firefox are 100 times more secure than IE. Chrome and Firefox are you best bet if you want a really good safe browser experience. I'd even suggest using Opera before I would suggest IE.

 |  Version: Internet Explorer (Windows 7 32-bit) 9 RC

Pros

Cons

nice sleek design, clutter free, smooth as silk, hasn't crashed since install (10th February) download pop up bar is now at the bottom and did I mention its fast !!

Summary

I stopped using explorer 8 because it kept crashing,I used safari, but did like the history/bookmarks?
I downloaded explorer 9 and was really suprised how nice it looks and and how fast it is,no crashes so far,Microsoft might have got it right this time, only time will tell, but for now,I'm happy to use it

Updated on Mar 10, 2011

I'm guessing alot of firefox/google users reviewed this looking at same of the ratings, take no notice. This is fast, stable and sleek, what microsoft should have made ages ago.

 |  Version: Internet Explorer (Windows 7 32-bit) 9 RC

Pros

IE9 seems faster now, with accelerators.
Easy to use, minimalistic interface.
I like aero snap tabs and "pin websites to taskbar" features
Compatible with installed in IE8 plugins - I have "Save Video plugin" and it works perfectly in IE9 as well.

Cons

None so far.

"Surprisingly better than IE 6-7-8"

March 07, 2011  |  By KrishnaChetan

 |  Version: Internet Explorer (Windows 7 32-bit) 9 RC

Pros

Definitely Quicker
Improvement in addons availability
understands that there are other browsers also

Cons

Smooth gliding seen in FF and Chrome missing
MSN insistence is a headache

Summary

New. A chance has to be given on commonsense grounds. If MS can make the best OS (oops) can't they make a better browser ? FF 4-( if at all it releases) will tell all

Updated on Mar 7, 2011

Wish MS had taken more care in installation delays.

Updated on Mar 8, 2011

After a few days of using IE 9 - FF - Chrome - Opera - my vote goes to IE 9. *****Stars from me.

March 01, 2011  |  By prince_willip

 |  Version: Internet Explorer (Windows 7 32-bit) 9 RC

Pros

Good favorates tabs.
Looks good

Cons

Doens't work with facebook.
Crashes.
Not good compatablitly with microsoft

Summary

Another attempt of microsoft to come up with half decent software. Use firefox you just can beat the addons. Ie9 doesn't even have dictionary. Low compatbility.

What's new in version 9 RC
  • Performance Improvements: Between the Internet Explorer 9 Beta and Internet Explorer 9 RC releases over 2,000 changes have been made to improve browser performance for real customer scenarios. Internet Explorer 9 RC starts faster, loads webpages faster, and allows you to interact with webpages faster than ever before.
  • Improved JavaScript Engine Performance: Chakra, the new JavaScript engine for Internet Explorer 9 RC, has continued to be tuned for the common patterns found across real-world websites. Chakra uses advanced techniques traditionally only found in desktop optimizing compilers. A byproduct of improving the performance of Chakra for real-world scenarios is that Internet Explorer 9 RC is now the fastest JavaScript engine on the WebKit SunSpider Benchmark.
  • Dynamic GPU Usage: Internet Explorer 9 RC now dynamically decides when to use GPU based rendering and when to use software based rendering based on the customer's GPU and installed graphics driver, which ensure the fastest possible experience for all customers by default.
  • Industry Leading Power Consumption Levels: By leveraging the GPU for graphical computation, Internet Explorer 9 RC saves significant power and leads the industry in power consumption by allowing the CPU to sleep for longer durations. Internet Explorer 9 RC is also the only browser on the Windows platform that integrates with the Windows Power Options and respects customers' power settings to conserve power and maximize battery life.
  • Improved Usability: The new features in the Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate (RC) continue to refine and improve the usability of the browser. Menu bar toggle allows you to permanently enable the menu bar with just a few clicks. Internet Explorer 9 RC also gives you even more space to let your sites shine by reducing the frame pixels by five over the beta release to see more of your favorite site's content.
  • Tabs: With the RC Build, we continue to listen to customers and have implemented the ability to place tabs on a separate row from the address bar providing you more space for all your tabs.
We've also improved the visibility of the active tab and enabled you to close background tabs without selecting the tab by exposing the close button on hover. A single tab can also be closed using the close button on the tab, which behaves the same as the frame close button.
  • Pinned Sites: You will now be able to pin multiple home pages in a single pinned site with Internet Explorer 9 RC and open several webpages simultaneously. This will both reduce the clutter on the task bar and make browsing to your favorite sites available with a single click. Additionally, it's now possible to pin sites to your taskbar wherever it's positioned and for developers to implement drag-to-pin support right on their pages.
  • Tracking Protection Lists: Some content on websites can be used to track your activity as you browse the web. Tracking Protection allows you to limit the browser's communication with certain websites--determined by a Tracking Protection List--to help keep your information private. Anyone can create Tracking Protection Lists, and there should be many to choose from in the near future.
  • ActiveX Filtering: ActiveX is a technology that allows web developers to create interactive content on their sites, but it can also pose a security risk. Internet Explorer 9 RC allows you to block ActiveX controls for all sites, and then turn them back on for only the sites that you trust with the new ActiveX Filtering option.
  • Pinned Sites InPrivate: InPrivate browsing is now supported on pinned sites giving you more choice and increased privacy across all your browsing experiences. When you pin a site with InPrivate browsing enabled, the next time you launch the pinned site, the browsing session is automatically enabled as InPrivate.
  • CSS2D Transforms: Internet Explorer 9 RC adds support for the CSS3 2D Transforms module, which enables elements that are rendered by CSS to be transformed in two dimensional space.
  • HTML5 Semantic Tag: Internet Explorer 9 RC improves support for several HTML5 semantic tags where a semantic element is defined as one whose tag name describes its content, but which does not have any special behaviors. Elements now inherit from HTMLElement and by default the elements are now styled as specified in the HTML5 specification.
  • Geolocation: With support for geolocation, Internet Explorer 9 RC enables a web application to access the current geographical location of the PC running Internet Explorer, as specified in the Geolocation API specification. The webpage can then tailor the user experience according to location.
  • WebM Support: Internet Explorer 9 RC supports playback of H.264-encoded video using the HTML5 video tag and now WebM video as well when a VP8 coded is installed on Windows.
