Microsoft's third beta for the next iteration of Internet Explorer is predictably a solid contender in the browser category. A sleeker and more spare interface will have some old IE users running for the preferences, but even with fewer buttons, the new IE works fine right out of the gate. The adoption of tabs is a welcome change for more efficient browsing and the Quick Tabs feature is an especially nice touch for viewing the contents of all of your tabs in one window. The addition of an RSS feed manager is nice for news addicts, blog fans, and hobbyists, and subscribing to new feeds from your favorite sites is a snap. We also like the integrated search bar that offers a pull-down menu letting you add your favorite search engines and sites quickly. While Internet Explorer doesn't offer the user-made plug-ins, themes, and extensions found in other browsers like Firefox and Opera, there are several useful plug-ins you can choose from at Microsoft's Web site. Also, we found IE 7 didn't work on some major sites, but hopefully when Microsoft releases a final version 7, these bugs will be fixed. Finally, security concerns with what will undoubtably be the most used Web browser are always an important consideration, but with the proper security programs, most people will be able to surf safely. Overall, we find the latest beta of Microsoft's megabrowser a fine way to browse the Web, with the addition of many long-awaited features to make the entire experience more efficient and enjoyable.

"3 thumbs down"

January 26, 2009  |  By tina_mischell

 |  Version: Internet Explorer 8 beta 2

Pros

I hate it. No more to say.

Cons

Don't ever download this. I have it on my PC and can not remove it.
Once you download the only way I see to uninstall is to restore your computer. It's a very very bad browser.

Summary

I hate it.

"Major Security Issue in this.....Dont Download Yet"

January 13, 2009  |  By wiredchicken

 |  Version: Internet Explorer 8 beta 2

Pros

Good Idea
Neat Features
Step Up in terms of interactivity

Cons

Lots and Loys of Glitches in this version
Text does not fit within many text boxes
McAfee does NOT work with this, and is a major security issue that needs to be addressed now!

Summary

If you have McAfee, do not upgrade yet! When I had a virus, McAfee opened up blank and was also disabled. Additionally, I could not perform a virus scan on computer! I had to demote to version 7 because of this . Wait until the final version and then download.

"IE8 is a monstrosity! Micrsoft is losing its edge"

January 12, 2009  |  By sturdyoak

 |  Version: Internet Explorer 8 beta 2

Pros

Better security, opens faster than IE7

Cons

Toolbar options and functionality frustratingly very limited! The layout just does not make good sense. Every toolbar has inadequacies. The HOME button is still on the wrong toolbar and the wrong side of the screen.

Summary

IE fans have been complaining ever since the 7 came out about the lack of toolbar functionality. Will Microsoft ever listen? It appears not!

Where do I begin? Are these professional programmers Microsoft has working on this browser? If so, they need to put in more time. There is glaring deficiencies.

On the far left of the tab bar is the button that says, "Favorites" - you click that button and you most certainly do not see your Favorites - you see your browsing history!

I'm convinced that Microsoft is not reading carefully the myriad opinions and comments about IE all over the web, because evidently they have yet to received word that the lack of toolbar functionality is universally bemoaned.

Firefox has had the good sense to keep the HOME button on the address bar just like in IE6. In IE6 one could move around the toolbars, even put the address bar on the File menu.

It looks like Microsoft wants us to shift more functionality to the Command bar. Okay, fill up the Command bar with the maximum number of optioin, remove the File Menu, but then how do you access your Favorites (bookmarks)? You put the Command bar above the tabs, and have over three-quarters of the bar sitting there unused, wasting precious desktop space with emptiness.

Why can't the HOME button be on the address bar just like it always was? You have the Forward & Back, the Refresh and Stop buttons all right there together - why on earth do I have to reach clear across to the right side of the screen to access the Home button? Where is that option?!

"Buggy and removed other browsers when installed."

January 07, 2009  |  By BoogersAreGreen

 |  Version: Internet Explorer 8 beta 2

Pros

Has some interesting new intergrations

Cons

Crashes a lot, shows Internet Configuration warning that it can not connect to the internet when it use my web based ftp, it removed my Safari, Firefox and Opera browsers without my permission other than asking if I wanted to integrate the links.

Summary

Internet Explorer - all versions have been having problems with recent updates over the past few months after windows updates were applied so I recommend using another browser like Opera. I.E. 8 beta 2 still has a long way to go and I do not recommend installing it unless you just want to see what it looks like.

"I had very few issues with this software in XP Pro"

January 04, 2009  |  By monster_eater123

 |  Version: Internet Explorer 8 beta 2

Pros

It's faster than IE7 or Firefox3 and has a really nice interface that I can agree with.

Cons

There were a few bugs here and there that I ran into but remember this is not the final product it is just BETA!

Summary

Remember this product is still BETA people, bugs are to be expected here. Well, once old Microsoft cleans most of the major bugs and incompatibility issues i believe this will be one web browser others will have to fear.
