The utility properly reads hard drive SMART values, but it suffers from some interface problems. ID Harddisk SmartChecker's multitab, simple item list display offers no options to change font type or size to improve readability. The scrollable hard drive list window can't be resized to easily see all drives. Help is merely a short FAQ, but it should cover most basic questions.

There isn't anything to operating this application. Open it and it displays SMART data for your primary drive. Other drives can be selected with a click, but there's no way to display the data for all drives on a single screen. The application does display threshold, current, worst, and Raw values for experienced users. Novices can simply check the Status column to get a simple OK or Bad notice. You don't have the option to display SMART data over time for a single drive. A log function merely displays disk check times and changes in preferences.

Oddly, the installation process asks users to enable or disable starting the application with Windows. That answer is ignored on first run as the application sets itself to autorun at start-up. A promised feature to e-mail notification alerts offered no sender preferences and failed to send e-mails during testing.

You won't need the full 14-day trial to find this application isn't helpful. ID Harddisk SmartChecker accurately checks SMART data, but the program's display and features fall short of many apps in the genre. There are much better choices available for both experienced and novice users.
