"Best Home Inventory & Maintenance Software Application"

    April 01, 2014   |   By NHSteelersFan

    Version: HomeManage Home Inventory 2011

    Pros

I looked at all the highly rated Home Inventory & Maintenance Software System listed on TopTenReviews.com (Software > Reference > Home Inv. SW) and downloaded and tried many including Home Inventory Pro, HomeManage, My ICE Plan, Quicken Home Inventory Manager and others and I can tell you that HomeManage is the easiest to use and most feature rich software. My background is Engineering and Maintenance and have used Asset Management Systems within Industry and thus know a lot about this topic. HomeManage is more than robust enough to meet the household needs and more.

    Cons

The setting up of reoccurring maintenance items is good, but could be improved by having automatic alerts. In correspondence with the company, this is to be released in their new version and so that should eliminate the only knock I have against it and not giving it a full 5 star rating.

    Summary

Very good Home Inventory & Maintenance Software that should meet the needs of nearly everyone and after trying many systems, I am confident that it will work for you too.

    "Easy, complete, and versatile"

    January 22, 2014   |   By continim

    Version: HomeManage Home Inventory 2011

    Pros

Used Quicken Home Inventory since originally published, but no longer works in Windows 7. Researched multiple alternatives. Landed on Home Manage 2011 by Liberty Street. Had to hand enter 53 pages (25 years) of data since Quicken QHI files won't export in any format, but hand entering was easy. Home Manage can import Excel and CSV formats, a huge plus for those who had other programs in those format. Allows creation of own user fields and extensive notes, photos and more in addition to traditional data fields. I haven't used the report features yet, but they appear plentiful, and since you can export to Excel or Microsoft Access, you can do all kinds of data manipulation and calculations if needed.

    Cons

No real cons, but suggest to add ability to directly import Quicken Home Inventory (QHI)file format for those who need it. Also, the chat line is off line every time I check and there are no phone contact numbers. Although the help documents that are embedded in the program minimize the need to contact tech support, I believe it is always helpful to customers to have the ability to reach someone for the odd situations that help documents may not cover. I have been fortunate to reach a representative from the company and he has been very helpful and responsive to my suggestions for program improvements. I'm told the 2014 version will be released in the spring of 2014 and may contain one or two of my suggestions.

    Summary

Very good product. Meets all my needs. Looking forward to the 2014 release this spring with its improvements.

"No minor upgrades & No Customer Support"

    November 12, 2010   |   By melmitts707--2008

    Version: HomeManage Home Inventory 2010

    Pros

Nice interface, stores all the important information.

    Cons

No minor upgrades & No Customer Support

    Summary

While the program, as purchased has a good interface and does a good job of tracking the important facts for the insurance company should you ever need it. Unfortunately, the version you buy is the version you get. There seems to be no upgrades even for minor updates. Customer Support - Simple, there is none. They don't respond to emails.

"Really excellent product. Does have some shortfalls"

    June 21, 2007

    Version: HomeManage Home Inventory 2007

    Pros

I've looked at 8 different software home inventory programs trying to find the one that is right for my needs. This seems to fit the bill nicely and is fairly intuative. I like the fact that you may manage multiple locations (home, office, vacation home, etc.) from the same window. Look at the summary and detail data at the same time. Look at data by rooms or by category.

You may create queries with up to 8 criteria. The summary view will allow you to customize the columns which are displayed. And there is an extensive reporting capability including the capability to develope your own report. Output can be in up to 16 different formats including PDFs. The report program is third party software.

Support is provided through forums as well as technical contact via e-mail. I'm not sure what the response time is.

All in all, a very good program for $35.00

    Cons

I found the product lacked the capability to calculate TOTAL COST = UNIT COST * QUANTITY and the ability to automatically recalculate when the input values changed. Same problem with replacement cost and estimated values.

The program is limited to four images per item where several others had unlimited numbers. Images could be used for photos of the item as well as any paper documentation. Although you may attach a document to the item through a pointer (URL). These types of items are not stored in the data base so should be stored seperatly in a directory.

I found the report building program was not that intuative or easy to learn. Guess one must read through the online documentation; not WYSIWYG.
