This comprehensive checksum calculator couldn't get much easier to use. HashCalc's simple dialog-size interface dispenses with glitz to plainly list input and results. The program's single page Help file adequately explains program functions, but expects users to be familiar with the field of checksums.
The display consists of a text box for the file path or text that is to be checked. Below that line are 13 common checksum algorithms. A checkbox next to each makes it easy to indicate whether the app will calculate the file checksum for that algorithm. Operating HashCalc is as easy as dragging a file to the program's interface. As soon as you let go of the file, the app immediate calculates and displays the checksum for any of the checked algorithms.
In addition to calculating file checksums, the app calculates checksums for text and hex strings. Calculating checksums using Hash Message Authentication Code takes only entering the text or hex key before dropping the data file.
Testers had only a single complaint about HashCalc. The program could use a single button method to copy all the checksums to a text file. As it is, users must select and copy checksums one at a time. Nevertheless, system administrators, file traders, and anyone who needs to check transferred files will want this freeware.

Cons
Does not calculate multiple hash types at the same time. Must repeat the operation (select files etc.) to produce a variety of hash types on one file. This is somewhat inconvenient and unnecessary. It would be better if you ticked boxes for every type of hash you want.

Gives me the SHA1 codes that I need on files downloaded from Microsoft. Small program, minimal fuss.

No cons for this program.

Good program.
Only way I can think to improve it would be if the program would add the ability to right-click on a file (in Windows Explorer) and select HashCalc to automatically open and calculate the codes (using your last-used settings). -

You can't do multiple files at a time and you can't output to a txt file, like some other hash-checkers. Like most others, it won't offer (right-click checking) shell integration for some user accounts and not others, it just doesn't do shell integration (fair enough). I just uninstalled another one that installed a shell extension without mentioning it nor offering the option to disable it in the preferences. This is better.
