    "A handy basic recorder"

    August 17, 2014   |   By PoxyPig

    Version: Hanso Recorder 3.1.0

    Pros

Straightforward to use, can be left in system tray ready to record input. The detect silence feature is very useful - it records nothing until an input starts. Can record in a wide variety of formats and sample rates, useful for long recordings.

    Cons

It's a simple recorder. There appears to be some sort of unmentioned automatic gain feature that turns up the background noise during periods of silence, making it a poor choice for good quality recordings.
The Detect Silence level is not adjustable.
It attempts to install a p.u.p. called "Search Protect" or "Trovi Search". This is not needed and can be refused at install time.

    Summary

I've been using versions of this program on Windows XP for several years to record phone calls and voice. All have worked well except for the annoying background noise mentioned above.
I have not attempted to use the scheduled internet recording feature but the program seems well written and the feature I've tried work as expected with the exception of the minimise and maximise buttons which do nothing but, oddly, the close button minimises to the system tray. A right-click there gives the option to exit.
When finished the installer goes to the Hanso website which describes the features of the program. Among other things it claims
"Hanso Recorder offers an attractive, user-friendly interface that makes handling any audio task easy (such as displaying a waveform image of an audio file, filtering, manipulating various audio effects and an equalizer to enhance the sound quality of all recordings, etc)."
I have never managed to find any of those features in this freeware program.

    Updated on Aug 17, 2014

I didn't mention the "Text to Speak" feature, which is not something you'd expect on an audio recorder. Most speech synthesisers are none-too-good so I was expecting this to be poor. In fact it works surprisingly well. With a few tweaks to one's spelling a quite good result can be achieved. The voice is fixed though, so it's unlikely to fool my mum into thinking it's me speaking!

"It does not record what you hear on Win 7"

    January 17, 2013   |   By cesarinternational

    Version: Hanso Recorder 2.2

    Pros

It works for recording your own voice.

    Cons

Windows Vista and 7 do not allow you to record from what you hear. This program does not overcome that obstacle. You will be able to record your own voice.

Upon installing it the program asks you if you want to install the default way or to choose what to install. You should chose to choose what to install and un-select the check mark that tells it to install the SmartSuggestor, which the program installs by default.

    http://www.smartsuggestor.com/features.html

Once the program is installed the program opens the browser and takes the user to the following webpage:

    http://dailyads.org/~reports/counter/index.php?idapp=213

I do not know the purpose of the page since some of the scripts were blocked by the protections I have in my browser. That page might be just a counter about how many people have downloaded the program, but I do not know. I suppose that after that page is visited the user is taken to the company's website to invite the user to buy the program.

    Summary

I was able to record my voice with the program. The program installs the SmartSuggestor by default, which could be the one that provides extra income to the maker of this software. The page the program takes the user to might be a counter or have some other purpose. The company's website and the program itself look professional. I like that the program has the text to speak feature.

    Updated on Jan 17, 2013

Actually, the program is free. Therefore the user might be taken to the company website to show what else they have to offer.

    Updated on Jan 17, 2013

The minimize and the button next to it do not work. Therefore you either display the program or you close it. The program attempts to start something when you start your computer. It is a lnk file that my antivirus program asked me if I want it to block that start up lnk file or not. I could be the one that starts the program upon starting the computer or would start something else upon starting the computer. I do not know. I blocked it.

    Updated on Jan 17, 2013

The Text to Speak feature works very well. The close button minimizes the program to the task bar. You need to exit the program from the task bar, which is located on the bottom right side.

"STAY AWAY:May be sinister, NOT GOOD, Fraudulent Reviews"

    January 13, 2011   |   By SilenceYourHeart

    Version: Hanso Recorder 1.6

    Pros

Might do some of what it claims.

    Cons

-This is a duplicate program: Hanso Recorder, Fey Recorder, and MegaMind Recorder are all the SAME with different skins.
-FAKE Glowing Reviews for all 3 programs.
-This program could have sinister intent.
-Program is functionally a poor recorder.

    Summary

This is a duplicate program: Hanso Recorder, Fey Recorder, and MegaMind Recorder are all the SAME with different skins.

DO NOT TRUST any of the FAKE Glowing Reviews for any of these 3 programs.
Each program has THREE fake 5-star REVIEWS with NO CONS. Each of these 3 fake reviews was left on the same day per program. Each of these 9 TOTAL FAKE Reviews (3 each for each program) are from from "Alexunderr" (3), "phillgamer" (3), "dexter8989" (2), and "boogieman89" (1).

On installation and uninstallation, program opens web browser with questionable web address, which is quickly re-directed to something seeming safe--so you never see the questionable web address unless your are not connected to the internet.

This program could have sinister intent.

These 3 programs are also not very awesome as far as recording. But please look at the fake reviews to see that this is something you should never download or install.

    Your welcome.

"Easy to use, but needs a better tutorial."

    January 04, 2011   |   By gjyaffe

    Version: Hanso Recorder 1.6

    Pros

Works well and easy to use.

    Cons

The online manual would be vastly improved by providing guidance as to what recording settings (frequency range, sampling rate, etc.) are best suited for what purposes.

    Summary

This is a fine product with rich flexibility as to recording quality. However, the online manual would be vastly improved by providing guidance as to what recording settings (frequency range, sampling rate, etc.) are best suited for what purposes.
I was recording lectures (simple voice) and was looking for a decent trade-off between quality and minimizing the MP3 file size. The authors could have provided a guidance matrix; showing input sources, quality levels and output file sizes given different recording parameters. A dedicated user could work this out by trial and error, but why should that be necessary?

"Very visual/easy/practical interface & user friendly"

    December 31, 2010   |   By irisch87

    Version: Hanso Recorder 1.6

    Pros

Love the software: 1) it provides file format from wav, mps, to wma & + PowerPoint can only embed wav format, any other can be linked only! 2) Sound quality is great. 3) Happy to be able to choose different sound quality, file size.

    Cons

will update later. some of the minor functions could be improved.

    Summary

good software, It matched my expectation: simple to use, record my own voice in different format and sound quality. and most important unlike some other "free" software don't have any scams or privacy issue after downloading the software as of today.

    "Didn't work at first..."

    September 24, 2010   |   By RmorBearer

    Version: Hanso Recorder 1.4

    Pros

    Works
    Sounds good
    Relatively intuitive

    Cons

    Didn't work at first
Didn't follow through on support promise

    Summary

When I first installed the program, I followed the directions for setting it up. But there were no choices listed for input source. In the Help, under FAQ, there was a description for getting this set up in Vista. Followed those steps, still nothing. On the contact page there was mention of a further FAQ page on their web site, but it wasn't anywhere I could find. I sent an e-mail asking for help several days ago, but no response. When I sent the e-mail, I selected to have a copy of the message sent to my own e-mail address, but that hasn't happened either. Turns out the program magically started working the next day, though I hadn't rebooted...

"Does what it says and more!!!"

    September 16, 2010   |   By loveglenn2003

    Version: Hanso Recorder 1.4

    Pros

Records just about any media input I tried on it. Easy to use and works well in the background.

    Cons

Those unfamiliar with audio manipulation may find the help instructions vague, and not of much help.

    Summary

Compact recorder that does what it should and more!!
