This program copies Web sites from the Internet for offline browsing. The installation actually allows you to choose not to install a Start menu folder, a rare favor. HTTrack Website Copier downloads sites into a My Web Sites folder it creates, which you will have to remove manually if you uninstall.
On start-up, a dialog box immediately asks what proxy server it should use, which is off-putting. The sheer number of configuration options for mirroring made us dizzy. You can enable or disable external link crawling, downloading of classes of files such as DOC or JSS, and just about anything else. The default settings didn't preserve some aspects of some complex sites, such as font and background color, but surely that is just a configuration option in one of the many menus.
Ripping an entire site took less time than clicking through a couple pages of it online. Whether you're a casual user looking to grab a collection of pug pictures or a Webmaster wanting to work on your site from a new computer, this is well-worth the free download.
Publisher's description
From HTTrack :HTTrack is a free and easy-to-use offline browser utility. You can download the contents of entire Web sites from the Internet to a local directory for offline viewing. Simply open a page of the mirrored Web site in your browser and browse the site link by link as if you were viewing it online. HTTrack also can update existing mirrored sites and resume interrupted site downloads. The program is fully configurable and includes an integrated help system. It crawls M3U and AAM files and can cache to a ZIP file.

Version: HTTrack Website Copier 3.41 RC1
Pros: A majority of the site files were dl'd successfully.
Cons: A number of pages were missed entirely or corrupted. Some files were unreadable after dl'ing. This is my own site I was backing up, so I know for a fact that the links are intact and the pages display correctly in all standard browsers. If the program functioned properly, I cannot think of any reason it should not have been able to find all linked pages.

"Best free Offline Web Browser!"
Pros: This product is by far one of the best Offlione browsers I've used for a long time.
It is on equal par with te paid versions and does a little bit more in some areas.
Clean and easy to operate and fast.
Cons: The interface is a little strange but it's functional behaviour is superior.

Pros: It does what it says. I easily downloads a site including linked pages for offline viewing. Converts the pages to readable html and makes the links local.

Version: HTTrack Website Copier 3.41 RC1
"Ok for the simplest tasks. Not for password protected sites."
Pros: Its free and simple.
Cons: Entering a username and password is buggy. It copies the password field into the username field and you have to change it by hand to get it to work. Even still, I could not get it to download a very simple authenticated site and keep the links straight. Nice try, needs work.

Version: HTTrack Website Copier 3.41 RC1
Pros: Fast, multithreaded. Able to reach into Javascript to extract links and follow them.
Cons: I've been blogging for four years. I decided to pull down a complete copy of my blog so that I could reorganize the material. having used HTTrack before to pull down ordinary web sites, I downloaded the newest version and set it loose on my blog site.
It proceeded to capture every other blog on the site, and entries from thousands of other sites. I stopped it cleaned out the directories, and tried again, this time carefully setting every option. I ran it again overnight, and this time, I stopped it after 8 hours, after it copied 20,000 files 1.3 GB. My blog is on blogs.msdn.com, which has thousands of prolific bloggers. I wanted my site, not theirs.
When I finished, I looked at the files it copied... and had not finished copying my blog. Just everyone elses.
I'm looking for a better tool.
I've spent the past hour cleaning this junk off of my hard drive.
Avoid using this tool to get blog sites.
