Version: HDDlife 2.8.98
"System locks up, waiting for response from company"
Pros: From what I've heard, it's a great little program and am really wanting to try it out.
Cons: After install, just as program starts up, it locks up the computer. I have tried a couple different version of HDDLife and they do the same. May have problems with my PCI/IDE card...not sure

Version: HDDlife 2.8.98
"Good, except it calls back home every few minutes"
Pros: Good.
Cons: For the life of me I don't know why it needs to connect to Internet every few minutes.

Version: HDDlife 2.8.98
"Unreliable data, horrible customer service"
Pros: Supposed to report hard drive temperature, "work life" (the cummulative time the hard drive has been running since it was first produced), drive health, and drive performance
Cons: After installing from download.com, I was told my primary HDD (a Maxtor) was at 0% health, that I needed to back up the drive and shut down immediately. It also reported that the "work life" had only been 24 days, which was far from true given that the drive had been in my computer for 4 years!
It sounded fishy, so I ran Maxtor's own diagnostic software, which said my drive was fine. I even spoke with their CS dept., who confirmed my drive was fine.
I then update to the latest version (v. 2.8.105), which said the Maxtor drive's health was perfectly fine! Now it's telling me the drive is overheating (which wasn't reported in the prior version). Also, new with this version is that it will only report data on the primary master HDD unless you pay for the pro version.
I have written HDDlife CS multiple times to report these issues, and have never received a single reply.
The Verdict: DON'T RELY ON THIS SOFTWARE
