Sometimes we have to wonder if publishers actually test the software applications that they create. That didn't seem to be the case with this free toolbar, which was a dog in more than just name.
Guard Dog Toolbar includes spyware and virus removal buttons, along with browser privacy cleaning tools for your history and cache. The toolbar's plain interface can't be customized and you wont find such basic features as e-mail notification or a weather forecast. Our first stop was the spyware button, which just takes you to the publishers Web site for a so-called scan. Something seemed to happen, just not anything that would remove spyware. There's no scan report or any other indication that the program got the job done. Plus, we didn't appreciate how the scan interrupted our browsing. The anti-virus scanner button was even less successful, as it led to the dreaded "Page Could Not Be Found" message. To round out this toolbar's useless set of features, the browser privacy tools didn't work either.
It seems somewhat ironic that the only working feature on this toolbar turned out to be the uninstall button, but we were glad that we could at least get rid of this disappointing and pointless toolbar.
