The Google Drive app lets you view and store files, spreadsheets, and videos, with 5GB of storage space for free, and more if you're willing to pay a subscription fee. The app only requires that you log in to your Google account to quickly access files and media stored on your Google Drive.

Upon launch, the app gives you a list of items to let you quickly get to files on My Drive, files shared with you, files you have "starred," recently opened files, and those you have made available offline. In my testing I opened and looked at a Google Docs spreadsheet, a text file, and a couple of images, all of which were viewable on my iPhone. While I could store an MP3 on my Google Drive, I couldn't play it, so if you were thinking this might be a way to stream music not already on your iPhone, you'll need to look elsewhere.

New to Google Drive for iOS is the ability to create and edit documents. In editing mode, you can change font styles and access other formatting tools. Also, you can now view presentations through a nifty slide viewer. Unfortunately though, Google Drive on iOS still cannot edit spreadsheets.

Another big addition is the ability to upload files right from your device, directly into your Google Drive account.

Those who want the ability to read text files and spreadsheets synced across different devices will find Google Drive useful. Plus, the "make available offline" feature will be a godsend to frequent fliers, as well as anyone traveling to a location with no Internet access.

There is still obvious work to be done on Google Drive for iOS, but I would still recommend it, especially for anyone looking for mobile Google Docs access.

"The desktop software does not work."

    March 27, 2014   |   By bglenden

    Version: Google Drive 2.2.0

    Pros

    The web browser mostly works.

    Cons

Google gives me 1 TB of free cloud storage. Google drive is so terrible I can't use it. Pay your money to dropbox and save your blood pressure points. (If you only want to use the web browser interface, not the desktop sync problem, it mostly works although under safari it can go into infinite-flickering-eat-your-CPU mode).

    Summary

For gods sake don't pay Google any money for this.

    "Rubbish. Loads of bugs."

    March 08, 2014   |   By Ollie13579

    Version: Google Drive 2.2.0

    Pros

    Are there any?

    Cons

It doesn't work properly. The Google drive folder never syncs like it's supposed to. The only way to make it sync is to keep closing and restating google drive. It slows your computer down when it's running. Sometimes when a document is shared with someone else it allows both of you to go in and edit the document at the same time which it shouldn't.

    Summary

It's a buggy piece of crap. Very very poor.

"Google Drive doesn't sync, and Google knows it's broken"

    January 23, 2014   |   By pamelamf

    Version: Google Drive 2.2.0

    Pros

At this point I have no Pros because I'm so frustrated with purchasing a product that Google knows isn't working properly.

    Cons

Google Drive doesn't sync properly. I've had to restart Chrome, and my PC several times. Google knows this is an issue.

    Summary

Google knows there is an issue with Google Drive (according to the forums for over 2 years now) and they have failed to update the software so that it works properly. When I created a post in the Google forum, they promptly removed it stating it was a duplicate and the issue had been "answered". Their answer is a "work around" and not an actual fix for the issue they've known about for at least two years (based on the dates of the angry posts in their forum.

I pay to use this product, and I should not have to "work around" it. BTW, the work around doesn't actually work either.

"No. No no no. Ohhhhh No. Do NOT use it."

    January 16, 2014   |   By JLabonte

    Version: Google Drive 2.2.0

    Pros

    None.

But I need 10 characters so I will expound to say there are no redeeming characteristics of this software that I can identify.

    Cons

    It simply does not work.
It causes conflicts with the save function within Chrome.
Did I mention it does not work?

    Summary

About 4 months ago, I started having a problem whenever I right clicked on an image or file link in Chrome and selected "Save As", Chrome would freeze completely causing me to force close it in Task Manager. I searched for answers, found a couple workarounds, but none worked reliably. I got a new computer about that time, and the new computer had no such issues. I blamed my worries on the old Dell.

I had recently installed Google Drive on that Dell, and had all kinds of trouble with sync, the Drive folder wouldn't show in Win Explorer so drag and drop was not available. Etc., etc. I did not connect the dots at that point.

Fast forward to last night. I installed Drive on this new PC, largely because I own a Chromebook and have 100GB of Drive space I figured I may as well have access to. Suddenly the right click file saving problem in Chrome starts up again. This time, light dawned on marble head. I uninstalled Drive, and problem solved.

To summarize, Google has developed, distributed and promoted a piece of software that is not compatible with its own software. Micro...er...uh... I mean Google, really should be more savvy than this.
