This freeware program helps you maintain updates and changes in files you're working with. Ghostfiles launches each time you turn on your PC. All you have to do is select the locations of both the original and destination files. The program will automatically check for updates and changes to the original and transfer those to the destination file. Using the Lazy Write settings, you can configure Ghostfiles to check the selected files several times each day or every few days. The output of the program is brilliant, and you'll never need to worry about losing or forgetting information. This simple application, which doesn't occupy much space on the desktop, will please professionals and moderately skilled home users alike.Publisher's description
From Lowrie Associates :Ghostfiles is a simple tool for mirroring files among directories and across your network. It is a taskbar application that, when running, detects changes in files in the source directory and its subdirectories. Any changes are replicated to the destination path. With no need for expensive mirroring hardware, Ghostfiles runs efficiently and silently in the background, safely replicating file changes.
What's new in this version:
- Lazy Write feature ensures locked files are copied.
- Now supports mirroring multiple directories.
- Simple to use maintenance functions for managing Ghostfiles settings.
- Mirrors file deletes and renames as well as file creates and updates.

Version: Ghostfiles 2.0
Pros: Keeps track of the status of edited, copied, moved, and deleted files and folders quite efficiently.
Cons: There are limitations to the types of files and folders which it can mirror. Quite often, files and folders are left unmirrored for no obvious reason and without helpful explanations.

Version: Ghostfiles 2.0
Pros: Free. Better than any backup I've used. Perfect Mirror with low resource useage. Non-invasive.
Cons: Does it leave archive bits? Could look prettier.

"Fair performance but lacking critical features"
Pros: If you want to sync files localy on the machine the program is running on then it is a great improvement over "offline files" in windows.
Wicked fast performance for the file transfer.
Very easy setup and a small package!
Cons: 1) It only works one way: ie If I am syncing files between drive e to f, all changes I make on E will be copied, but any changes made on F are ignored, and will be OVERWRITTEN if it updates again from e. A minor grevance I know.
2) It doesn't play well with networks: I have tried everything under the sun to get it to update a local copy of a file from a network share consistantlly. It is very flaky about what and when it will copy even from a mapped network drive.
3) There is no "copy everything now" option. Infact, nothing is copied into the destination folder until it is changed in the source folder. What a huge oversite!
4) Lastly, and probably most importantly, the program cannot detect changes that have been made when it is not on, or from a network drive when it is disconnected. Because of points 2 and 3 there is no way that it is able to insure that it has the most up to date file. It could at least look at file creation date/time and update everything when it first loads.
Minor enhancements to the GUI would be nice too.
A great start, but needs some work.

Version: Ghostfiles 2.0
"Rates fair. Could be a lot better."
Pros: LOVE the idea. It does mirror the drives and directories that you specify.
Cons: Its buggy. It seems impossible to delete previous settings you make. I have even uninstalled it & reinstalled it twice, and "destroyed" the files before reinstallation. I emailed the authors twice with no reply. Great idea but there must be something like this better out there. They should debug it or drop it.

Version: Ghostfiles 2.0
Summary: Installs easily, quite easy to set up, the help file is very short but clear.
The problems start when you want to change the drives / folders you are mirroring, the program locks up. Even an uninstall wont cure this problem as the uninstall d... read more >> - See all 9 user reviews Write review
