Version: Genie Backup Manager Home Edition 6.0
"Avoid. Utterly unreliable. Impossible to restore from backups."
Pros: Nice interface.
Cons: This backup utility cannot restore its own backups - sounds crazy, but it's true - the software gives a "Failed to restore Treeobj.xdat" error. I have been waiting 208 days for tech support to resolve this issue, but nothing has happened yet.
It is due to the fact that GBM cannot handle filenames and paths longer than 255 chars. This is a staggering failure in these days of multimedia storage and content tagging.
This issue is all over the forums on the Genie Soft website. All the company say is "we are working on a new version that carries a lot of fixes and many new features". However, the issue is that the product as sold now does not work - backups cannot be restored. It is simply unacceptable to expect customers to wait for the developers to release a version that works. I have asked for my money back.

Version: Genie Backup Manager Home Edition 6.0
Pros: Great interface for chosing which files to backup. Finds files to backup I would not have thought of.
Cons: The DVD-writing interface is extremely buggy. It often will not write to a blank disk, or it will not allow another disk to be inserted after the first one is full. It also fails to alert user in advance when multiple disks are needed. If you are backing up to another source, then perhaps this program will work fine. But for DVDs, forget it.

"Increment / Differential backup does not work"
Pros: quite a lot of features but...
Cons: the incremental and differential backup methods don't work - you set it up and sometimes the job summary reverts back to "Full", and in any case it does not do INCR or DIFF backup. I have changed the registry according to their doc, still does not work. Also tried the Pro. I have deleted the program.

"It works, but I didn't buy it (see below)."
Pros: It does the job nicely, creating a set of WinZip-compatible files up to a maximum size (default 2GB) so they can be burnt to DVD or whatever. It handled incremental backups nicely.
Cons: None really, but I didn't buy it because WinZip 10 came out which does nearly the same job (WinZip 10 Pro version).

"Has important backup features others lack"
Pros: it allows you to backup your software settings, history etc, such as msn messenger, emails which is great if you're always changing systems and want to reload the settings on your new system. I've found this is something many of the popular backup softwares lack. I love the set and forget feature too - where you basically set what you want backed up and leave it to do it all for you. The ability to encrypt and compress your backups
Cons: doesn't have the ability to take a snapshot of your whole system to backup so everything is saved. But for me I couldn't careless about this aspect coz I do change systems abit, so this feature would be no use to me
