As various media players jockey for position to become your default setting for music and video streams, GOM Media Player's support for a wide range of file formats has helped it stand out as a firm favorite.
Supported formats include DAT, MPEG, DivX, XviD, WMV, ASF, AVI, and MOV, as are common codecs like FLV1, AC3, OGG, MP4, and H263. A pop-out playlist can save and organize your various media files, though the limited sort modes--two--hardly makes it a champ.
More impressive are the customizable settings on the control panel. Here you can adjust a video's image brightness, hue, and saturation. There's no preview window, and changes occur as the video runs, so unless you care for a rousing session of trial and error, be sure to tweak the settings after clicking "play." There's also a built-in screen-capture feature that includes zooming and panning, customizable themes, hot keys, and a host of preset and adjustable audio controls.
GOM is weakest when you're looking for help documentation and trying to tweak Save settings, but overall it's a very strong player worth at least a supporting role in your video-watching habits, if not the lead.

Version: GOM Media Player 2.1.16.4631
Pros: I have a new Dell XPS 430 Desktop power House desktop PC & Like all new PC's theres a few bugs to work out. This player solved a big one. Installed on a Vista x64 system without a glitch & now ll my long to collect movies & videos in AVI format play.
Cons: None so far & my major issue in video playbacks fixed. thanks for this nice freebie is all I gotta say.
Summary: It took me all of 10 minutes to figure out how to skin it & use it. I was pleasantly surprised that it works so good on a Vista x64 system but the bottom line is that it does. Enough said about this savior of 5 years worth of music videos & ... read more >>

Version: GOM Media Player 2.1.16.4631
Pros: Music and video quality playback is good much better than Windows media player and even iTunes.
Cons: Some mp3s won't play, kept asking for a codec but can't find one. Audio and video of DVD movies are out of sync. GUI could be improved.
Summary: This would have been a good media player had it not been for the setbacks I encountered for the past 7 days I've been using it. Sound and video quality is good. I wonder why it can't find a codec for some mp3 songs I have. I can play them on WinMedi... read more >>

"Excellent app for fun & reuse your old Win9X PC"
Pros: This apps worls wonders on my old IBM Thinkpad 600Mz running Windows ME. It runs almost as well as WMP on Vista. After deciding to reuse my old Thinkpad as a multimedia PC I had to search hard to apps that were compatible but thanks to GOM it works.
Cons: Nothing - It is so well done I am in awe. Compliments to the develops....
Summary: For the freeware version, it has as many features as you would expect from apps that you have to pay for the extra bits. I was totally blown away by the number of video playback settings it has. I have yet to fully explore all it can do. And this is... read more >>
