GMail Drive takes the short stack of gigabytes given to Gmail users and turns them into a virtual drive accessible from your computer's file tree.
In short, it creates a shell name--a space extension that creates a virtual file system around the account. This lets you treat those 5 gigs (at the time of writing) as a standard remote drive. You can drag and drop files into the drive, or use standard cutting and pasting. When you add a file, it sends an e-mail to your Gmail account with the file as an attachment. If you delete a file from the virtual drive, it deletes the associated e-mail, as well.
There's not much else users can do with GMail Drive. It's an effective tool, but lacks any additional features. It does allow for proxy authentication and secure HTTP, it preserves long filenames, and it can auto-login, a useful touch for those who want to regularly use their Google account for file transfers. Also, it'd be helpful if the install file was a self-extracting EXE instead of a ZIP. Although it's nice to have a virtual drive option that doesn't require using your Web browser, GMail Drive would benefit by adopting some of the features of its competition.
Publisher's description
From Viksoe.dk :GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem around your Google Gmail account, allowing you to use Gmail as a storage medium. GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google Gmail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your Gmail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag'n'drop files to.

Cons: Can't give it a Drive letter souch as "G:\"

Version: GMail Drive 1.0.12 beta
"Flawed; appropriate for one-way backup only."
Pros: Convenient appearance in Explorer listings.
Cons: When you open a file on the GMail drive in an application, GMail changes its name! This makes working with these files impossible without constant renaming & confusion. Gspace uses the browser to transfer files but any added convenience in GMail is voided by this bizarre "feature."

Version: GMail Drive 1.0.12 beta
"Not perfect but pretty good..."
Pros: I have used Gmail drive for some time now and I find it to be very useful. It can be a little slow at times but, not only is your data viewable from the Gmail drive but can be seen and recovered in your Gmail account. It can be frustrating at times when my account gets locked down for to much data in short time but, even with these limits it is still a great pgm. After all it is free and you can have more than one account. I would highly recommend.
MIKLO
Cons: Being locked out for transferring to much data in short period of time. Can take a long time to load Gmail virtual drive but, I think this is due to amount of files that have to be loaded.

Version: GMail Drive 1.0.12 beta
Pros: Just thought of a good way to make use of this. Sign up a separate gmail account, just for the drive. Then you can have others around the world, use that ID to upload files so you can retrieve them. hmmmm.
