Freemake Video Converter is an application mainly for converting video files to other formats, but offers other converting and downloading features as well.

This application is a worthwhile download. The layout is very simple, making it easy to understand how to use it. Freemake offers a row of media buttons at the top and bottom of the window, which are labeled clearly and are simple to use. It is very easy to navigate the various steps required to convert videos and audio as well as download videos and audio from the Internet. The waiting time varies from one conversion job to the next, depending on the size and type. Converting a t3-minute audio file to MP3 can be done in less than a minute, while converting a 15-minute video to WMV can take over an hour and a half.

The program's Help pages are very good. The tutorials come with a short video as well as images which are very easy to understand. There seem to be a lot of hidden gems in this converter as well, such as a few editing features for videos and the ability to add subtitles to your videos when you rip them from your DVDs. You can also convert photos and have plenty of conversion options.

"Works great for what it is."

April 17, 2013  |  By jacoby75

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.0.0.13

Pros

Very easy to use.
Simple layout
Lots of options for conversion.
Incredibly easy to merge videos.

Cons

Limited editing options.

Summary

I wanted a new program to replace Windows Movie Maker, because WMM kept crapping out on me when I was trying to edit videos. This program works absolutely great for what it is. It's incredibly simple to crop and merge movies. I had eight short video clips that I wanted to combine into one clip. The whole process took less than a minute for me to set up (a little longer to convert, of course). And there are a ton of options for different file types to convert the finished product to.

I only wish it had more editing options, like the ability to add titles, or more transition effects and control over the transitions. As it is, it only links the videos back to back, and your only option for transitions are "none" or a fade transtion, which creates an overlay fade. It works well, but more control would be better. For example, I'd prefer to fade to black the one clip and then fade in from black the next clip sometimes. Not just continually overlap them. But for what it does, it works great.

"Simple interface, easy to understand and use"

April 15, 2013  |  By Riverviewer

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.0.0.13

Pros

Just a few simple clicks to add videos and convert them.
The support has real people who respond to questions in a timely manner.
When executing the installation program, you can opt out of extraneous and unwanted toolbars and other garbage that often comes with freeware.

Cons

.While converting most formats is quite easy, VOB files (the DVD format) are a problem The program will not convert more than a few seconds unless some extra steps are taken. This procedure is not made clear in the help file, and it took a few days for even the helpful support person to come up with the solution. The help files that come with the program are very basic, probably because for most purposes the program is self-evident.

"Stop, Read, and be Wary"

April 14, 2013  |  By danajohnson

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.0.0.13

Pros

The promises sound more comprehensive and favorable than most video converters, even offering still photos to video/slideshow recording.
As with much 'free software' currently, the background is filled with added or forced objects we do not see, but can find in fine print or on EULA's. Read carefully, as you are installing several programs, not ust one. I was smart and backed up, refusing the installation to completion.
Looks like candy, but my computer history is MY business, not that of Ellorra, opencandy, and the other destinations of my web use history upon installation.
I use clean install packages only. This does provide fine print explaining some of the destinations of the users history and use content.

Cons

Packed with the common background sales and gifting of your history and use behavior and destinations to some explained first locations of the loss of your information, but after the first transfer of information, and even in the event of injuries during the first transactions you are not aware of, the program as is true with many others, states a disclaimer, "As Is", "Without Warrantee", 'not resposible for the damages and losses coming from the use and installation of the software'.
While it sounds common in this age of 'supported software' offered with built in compromises, it is a package with wide denial of author responsibility in installation and use.

Summary

This does not offer the titled softare. The package offers your computer use to second, third, and possibly many other parties and groups.

Could have been a perfect software package, but I will never know now.

Author/sponser lacks integrity in the denial of the backgrounds actions in the printed promises made on the Downlaod.com/CNET website. All damages are the users, all gain is promised in the fine print to the second, third, or subsequent users of your computer history and internet use.

Even a 'best efforts' promise by the author and promoters is not made in the written fine print pages accessed after passing the Download.com index page.

"Used to be good - now a total POS"

April 13, 2013  |  By harster

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 4.0.0.13

Pros

It used to be a good program. I've used it for a couple of years, a few times. Easy to use, did it's job.

Cons

NOTHING BUT MALWARE NOW! I downloaded the update a few days ago and it wouldn't install properly. CNET sent me a notice... another version available now, so I tried again. It wouldn't install, said it was "rolling back" but I'm left with a program that won't even open. IT DID INSTALL SOME OTHER THINGS THOUGH. I ended up with two toolbars in all three of my browsers that I didn't want. I declined them during the Freemake install, but there they were anyway...and still no Freemake. Just a BIG pain in the ass.

Summary

I'll NEVER try FreeFake again!
