CNET Editors' review
Freemake Video Converter is an application mainly for converting video files to other formats, but offers other converting and downloading features as well.
This application is a worthwhile download. The layout is very simple, making it easy to understand how to use it. Freemake offers a row of media buttons at the top and bottom of the window, which are labeled clearly and are simple to use. It is very easy to navigate the various steps required to convert videos and audio as well as download videos and audio from the Internet. The waiting time varies from one conversion job to the next, depending on the size and type. Converting a t3-minute audio file to MP3 can be done in less than a minute, while converting a 15-minute video to WMV can take over an hour and a half.
The program's Help pages are very good. The tutorials come with a short video as well as images which are very easy to understand. There seem to be a lot of hidden gems in this converter as well, such as a few editing features for videos and the ability to add subtitles to your videos when you rip them from your DVDs. You can also convert photos and have plenty of conversion options.

"Leaves an "always on" process running on your computer"
Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.2.1.5
Pros
It does what it is supposed to do, that is good.
Cons
It runs a fairly heavy process going, even when the program is not running. What is that process doing? Why do they need to be doing things on the computer when the program is not running? Uninstall.
Summary
Avoid sneaky programs.

"Great free all-in-one video editor & converter"
Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.2.1.5
Pros
+ Very user friendly video editor for beginners & basic cutting & joining
+ Fast as hell, especially if you have an NVIDIA graphics card
+ Excellent format supportCons
- Can only hard-burn subtitles & with a lousy textual display
- Reading of DVD sources is sometimes inaccurate
- Doesn't always interpret video, sound or subtitle streams correctlySummary
Without question the best free alternative to Windows Movie Maker for basic video editing. Even easier to use and produces output very fast.
Highly recommended for quick use & pesent editing, but if you are editing precious video for storage purposes, use Handbrake or VidCoder instead. -
"Soo Happy with it."
Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.2.1.5
Pros
The ease of layout was awesome..
Cons
not much from what I used of it.
Summary
I tried about 6 different ones before this one, and this one is the best.

"BEWARE! Installs ADWARE! Changes your browser settings!"
Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.2.1.5
Pros
None at all!! DO NOT USE! DANGER!
Cons
Installs adware, changes your browser settings without permission, changes your default search engine and home page without the option not to
Summary
Converter works, but come with a load of dangerous baggage that will wreck your computer!
-
"Works great."
Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.2.1.5
Pros
It even joins partials. Pretty fast too.
Cons
none that I know of right now.
-
"Very easy to use converter"
Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.2.1.5
Pros
Easy to use with a simple screen that allows the conversion of one video file into another format.
Cons
Sometimes it fails the conversion. I haven't yet found out what causes this.
Summary
A really useful piece of software that enables you to convert a video file into other formats.

"Beware Installation of Coupon Companion Virus!"
Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.2.1.5
Pros
No benefits from an application that surreptitiously installs adware.
Cons
Installs Coupon Companion adware virus, which will cause your browser to consume 100% CPU and render your PC un-usable.
Summary
Shame on the application maker for sneaking this adware into their installer. My faith in CNET as a trustworthy download source has been diminished -- very disappointed they do not quality check app installs they post on their site.

"Best free one available"
Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.2.1.5
Pros
It does the highest quality job at the fastest speeds while working with the most video formats of all the apps out there.
It is FREE. No gotchas, no tricks.Cons
Editing features mediocre, but that's not what I use it for.
Summary
I produce and convert videos for a living. I have used many programs to accomplish these tasks, both free software and commercial applications. This one is by far the best. It does the highest quality job at the fastest speeds while working with the most video formats of all the apps out there.
Now if you need editing or other features just beyond video format conversion, there may be better apps for that. But if you just want to convert a video from format a to format b, and have it work cleanly and keep the audio in sync, this is the app you want. -
"Conversions are excellent but editing us clunky."
Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.2.1.5
Pros
Conversions are straightforward with excellent results.
Cons
Editing during conversion using the trim capability is imprecise and clunky. I use the converter to convert and then use something else to edit.
Summary
A great progran for converting.

"No burn to DVD, convert to *_TS folders"
Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.2.1.5
Pros
I have used this program mostly to burn video files to DVDs. This program allowed chapters in converted videos I had not expected. I haven't experimented with other conversions, yet.
Cons
No longer burns video files to DVD. Burns empty *_TS folders only.
Tried to install previous versions but setup file downloads only current version. Will try to find earlier versions somewhere else.Summary
Option to convert to *_TS folders works. These can be burned to DVDs with programs like "ImagBurn". (Haven't tried ISO option yet either). A 90 minute video takes me about 60 minutes to convert then burn and test. This way was actually a little faster on my older Win7, 64bit, dual-core 2.10ghz.
