This flawed utility works like a charm when it comes to splitting up large files, but its luck runs out when trying to reassemble them. FreeSplit's utilitarian interface has easy-to-use browsers to choose files and destination folders and pull-down menus to choose a preset or custom size. Unlike similar apps, FreeSplit doesn't create self-uniting batch files so split files can only be combined using the program's Join feature, and this proved to be its downfall. While we were impressed with how quickly and efficiently the app split test files, it didn't create a single usable file when split files were joined. We tried splitting and joining several file types, but the result was the same each time and the joined file wouldn't open. FreeSplit may be free, but it isn't worth downloading, especially not with the host of more effective programs to split and join files available within the category.Publisher's description
