I have eval'ed over 20 products, shareware and freeware...most fo them are so garbagy I felt I wasted my time. But this one actually does the job ..and bonus...its free. Of course they try and sell you other stuff but you don't have to bite.
Cons
Somewhat slower thans others (but at least it WORKS) ..progress bar coudld be a little more informative and interruptable...eats CPU cycles...but the end result MP4 file loads into the Ipod and is perfect
Summary
CNET needs to clear out all the crappy products that pretend to eb what they are not. DO NOT go by CNET reviews..they like everybody. Read user's reviews which are far more accurate. This product however is worth the time it took...and I would have paid for it...but its free!

Does not do anything, it converted the file, but when I tried to open it, it said ERROR 2002: Bad public movie atom found. What the hell does that mean?

Summary
Basically, if you need a free program that converts your movie files to mp4, get this. The biggest problem I have with it is that it freezes after it completes each conversion. That's the reason why I gave it only 3 stars, but other than that, good program. Recommended for anyone.
By the way, I'm using Vista. That's probably the reason why it crashes so much.

"Works the first time - Very Easy"

Easy installation. Ease of use. Easy understandable GUI.
Cons
1) Tried to add ASK toolbar to IE on installation. 2) Directed me to web page for more programs. 3) Converter menu has 19 other products to download or control. (Useful, if needed, but it is to tempt someone to download more of their products.)
Summary
So far so good. Worked the first time. It is great for novices. It even had an Trim feature for removing unwanted pieces of the video.

I thought, based on the name, that it was free... which turned out to be untrue.
Cons
They call this "Free" converter, but it only converted 10 minutes of an .avi file and then gave me a pop up saying that if I wanted more than 10 minutes, I had to purchase the software. What a lie, calling it free!

Calling this "Free" is nothing but a scam. I will be uninstalling it asap!
