Free Video to MP3 Converter: that pretty well sums up this app from DVDVideoSoft. It can extract audio clips from movies and other videos and save them as MP3s you can play, well, just about anywhere. From ringtones to e-greetings to sound effects, the uses for extracted audio clips are many. This freeware makes it all a matter of a few easy clicks. And it just doesn't create box-standard MP3s but also WAV, WMA, AAC, APE, FLAC, OGG, and more, with several quality options for each.
This program's user interface and layout shares a family resemblance with DVDVideoSoft's other free converters, and it works much the same, too, with buttons for adding or removing files and arrows for moving them up and down in the main window's list view. We could edit the Output Name and Tags and choose an output destination. By default, Free Video to MP3 Converter selects MP3 on the Quality drop-down list, and the highest possible audio quality, 320-bit LAME Insane Quality (we could also choose LAME Extreme or Standard encoding and several other methods, including bog-standard CD "Red Book" 32 kb/s, 44.1 kHz stereo encoding). A handy Preset Editor let us save our settings for future jobs. The program offers few options, but interface languages and skins are among them. We could also display a log file, check for updates, and enable video acceleration using ATI technology.
We added a file to the queue and clicked Tags to add the metadata, including an optional image. We dialed back the bit rate to 192KBps until we had an idea what size file our short video would produce. Free Video to MP3 Converter doesn't let you preview and select excerpts from videos; it just converts the audio into your chosen output format and quality. Of course, editing MP3s (or videos, for that matter) isn't too challenging, but it's outside of this tool's capabilities, so you may want to save a clip before you convert it. Our 4-minute video only took about 15 seconds to convert and save, and it played normally in our usual media player.

Pros
Super easy to use. Just point, click, name your file and hit convert!
Cons
People say that it adds a TOOLBAR without your permission. That's NOT TRUE. Go slow thru the setup and pay attention for where you need to uncheck the box for the toolbar installation. (I had to uncheck the box twice.) Just pay attention to the options for install as you should with any install and it downloads fine without the toolbar.
