This IE add-on touts itself as a one-stop shop for all of your reference needs, but wading through its advertisements left us questioning its convenience.
Free Online Dictionary Toolbar gave us a bad feeling from the get-go, when it replaced our home page with its own. (You actually have to go into the Preferences menu, after the fact, to remove the default setting.) The look of the toolbar itself is nothing to write home about; it sports a search field, a reference button, and a weather display, among other options.
The reference feature is the best part of this add-on. Clicking the reference button introduces a search window with a dictionary and an encyclopedia that yielded quick results. The weather button provides access to weather for any location, though you have to hover your mouse over the button to view the location. Three other buttons on the toolbar are nothing more than advertisements for ringtones and screensavers and cannot be removed. The intrusive home page and advertisements outweigh what few benefits this freeware provides. Users looking for a reference toolbar should bypass this add-on.
