An extremely narrow focus and certain stability problems restrict this basic audio converter to strictly so-so status. Free MP3 Converter does one thing: it converts WAV files into MP3s. True, the program costs nothing, but the majority of its competitors support additional audio codecs such as WMA and OGG.
The application's interface may make you yawn, but it's at least easy to understand. One of this program's biggest flaws is that it lacks support for batch conversions, forcing you to tediously transform files one by one. Still, we are glad you can tweak settings for MP3 output by selecting the sound quality, applying VBR compression, adding a mono effect, or applying a copyright stamp.
In some cases, the program wouldn't install properly, returning an error message and failing to launch. Users with no cash and very simple needs might take a quick look at Free MP3 Converter, but more compelling options are readily available.

You can use Free MP3 Converter together with Winamp software to write some of your existing MP3-s into wave format (by using Winamp Disk Writer plug in).After you create .wav file you can edit it with wave editing software and/or use Free MP3 Converter to encode .wav file into MP3 according to audio quality preferences or mp3 file size need.
Free MP3 Converter is fully featured MP3 encoder. Supports encoding of .raw and .wav files, variable bit rate encoding, adjustable bit rates (30-320 KHz), CPU priority adjust, IO frequency adjust, sampling rates, different encoding modes (Mono, Stereo, Joint Stereo) and many other options. Version 2 has GUI redesign, Vista compatibility added.

Pros: It's very simple encoder. As input files accepts only WAV and RAW formats!
Cons: I'd like if this tool could change the bit rate of existing MP3 files!

Cons: My McAfee caught it as trying to install a PUP. This software is infected, and should be removed from CNET.
