Lightweight and effective, this program is a great way to convert video files from Flash formats into something useful beyond Web pages. Specializing in formats meant for portable devices, Free FLV Converter also supports AVI and can download embedded SWF or FLV vids directly from the Internet when you punch in the URL.
The app can also perform local searches for vids as well as convert to FLV. Hitting either conversion tab will automatically open a file browser so you can choose your victim. From there, a conversion window opens up, and you can change the basics such as settings, including output format, quality, and destination directory, as well as more advanced options like the codec, aspect ratio, and the frame rate. Tap convert at the bottom of the window when you're ready, and the Free FLV Converter works smoothly and without interfering with other programs.
Free FLV Converter does have one annoyance: When you install it, be sure to opt out of the Dealio toolbar. It's no more than a minor drawback, though, and doesn't cause problems later on. Seeing as how the app ran smoothly in the background, it's definitely a must-use piece of freeware.

Pros: It works adequately, one of the better free pieces of software for converting to passable but not great FLV video. It is also among the fastest, converting in realtime or faster on a 5 year old computer.
Cons: The promises for the pay version of this, FLV Converter Plus, are false. It does not allow you to batch convert to FLV, there is no difference in quality, You'll just be throwing your money out.
Summary: If you want fast fast conversion to FLV with mediocre quality, particularly with HD 720p, this is a great program, and one of the only ones that would get the sound and video right for blip.tv from Sony Vegas Pro 9 H264 mp4s. Just don't be tempted t... read more >>

Pros: Nice app for tranferring flv to zune. Not hard to figure out, easy to set, can watch the conversion and the conversions work on the zune. What more can you ask for FREE?
Cons: Do not install the toolbar it asks you to do.
Summary: It does what is says it does. Quickly, unobtrusively (if you do not want to watch) and effectively.

Pros: I don't use this app to find videos - just to convert. It has a ton of conversion options, and you can even go from video to flash, which is great if you want to publish on a website
Cons: Occasionally it freezes up, but if you try to convert 4 videos at a time, that stuff happens
Summary: Does great. I've used it tons of times and it hasn't failed me. I would reccomend to anyone in need of a good converter with versatility.

"Great program, works exactly as advertised and for free"
Pros: Dont believe the reviews with 1 star rate, is just the rivals' lies. It has the ability to download flash video from the listed websites. It does convert flv video even if not grabbed by FreeFlv. Its free, has unimportant limitations vs pro version.
Cons: It has some bugs in the search section, sometimes won't return any results, everything else is fine.
