Lightweight and effective, this program is a great way to convert video files from Flash formats into something useful beyond Web pages. Specializing in formats meant for portable devices, Free FLV Converter also supports AVI and can download embedded SWF or FLV vids directly from the Internet when you punch in the URL.
The app can also perform local searches for vids as well as convert to FLV. Hitting either conversion tab will automatically open a file browser so you can choose your victim. From there, a conversion window opens up, and you can change the basics such as settings, including output format, quality, and destination directory, as well as more advanced options like the codec, aspect ratio, and the frame rate. Tap convert at the bottom of the window when you're ready, and the Free FLV Converter works smoothly and without interfering with other programs.
Free FLV Converter does have one annoyance: When you install it, be sure to opt out of the Dealio toolbar. It's no more than a minor drawback, though, and doesn't cause problems later on. Seeing as how the app ran smoothly in the background, it's definitely a must-use piece of freeware.

"SPYWARE!!! INSTALLS TOLLBAR EVEN WHEN YOU SAY NO..."
Pros: converts your videos into other formats including audio files
can search for videos from youtube etc from within the program
Cons: When installing it asks if you want to install the yahoo toolbar and the dealio toolbar. i clicked no. But yet, once i ran the program, ( and i wouldn't have know if it wasn't for spybot) it tried to add the toolbars into the startup part of the registry, the internet explorer bit and stuff... tried about 5 entries, all of which i denied and hopefully that stopped it from doing anything, but i would not recommend this program as it lies to you about that, what else does it lie about?

"works flawlessly esp. with the picky roxio"
Pros: i was suprised when my roxio/sonic my dvd9 recorded the files without a hitch onto dvd;and it plays everywhere.talk about nice suprises!
Cons: i sure hope this supports the newer sites that have improved resolution like Hulu.i'll try as soon as i am able.

Pros: This thing is great... I thought it was just a FLV converter... But I downloaded it and it downloads videos off of alot of large name websites, youtube, dailymotion, metacafe, google video, and converts them to the format you choose...
Cons: I would say the only thing would be that when you are browse through videos it doesn't have pictures, just the video descriptions. So it can be a little hard to find things.
