Lightweight and effective, this program is a great way to convert video files from Flash formats into something useful beyond Web pages. Specializing in formats meant for portable devices, Free FLV Converter also supports AVI and can download embedded SWF or FLV vids directly from the Internet when you punch in the URL.
The app can also perform local searches for vids as well as convert to FLV. Hitting either conversion tab will automatically open a file browser so you can choose your victim. From there, a conversion window opens up, and you can change the basics such as settings, including output format, quality, and destination directory, as well as more advanced options like the codec, aspect ratio, and the frame rate. Tap convert at the bottom of the window when you're ready, and the Free FLV Converter works smoothly and without interfering with other programs.
Free FLV Converter does have one annoyance: When you install it, be sure to opt out of the Dealio toolbar. It's no more than a minor drawback, though, and doesn't cause problems later on. Seeing as how the app ran smoothly in the background, it's definitely a must-use piece of freeware.

"Does just what it says it will and FAST!"
Pros: I've only been using a day or so, but it does wicked fast conversion from flv files to DivX avi files. A 20 minute flv clip converted on my 6 month old computer in about 2 minutes. I scanned with a couple different virus scanners, looks clean of any spyware or known threats.
I'd probably give it a 4, but it deserves higher than the overall average 3 it's got now. It does just what I need it to. My compliments to the programmer(s)!
Cons: Youtube downloading apparently won't work for anything where you have to confirm age, but don't really plan to download videos from there anyway, so no big deal.
It defaults the download directories to it's own program directory which is kind of odd. Changing it isn't hard but feels a little unpolished. Changes directories in one view for both of them, which was unexpected. Also, it won't handle batches of files without crashing.

"Grabbing a moviefrom Youtube didn't work"
Pros: I haven't tried the movie conversion tools, I don't know.
Cons: The program said that the download from youtube to the selected directory is finished, but it is nowhere in the computer. There is no need for age varification either, it's just an animation of a walking cow. Any help would be appriciated.
