This audio utility proves you can still get something decent for nothing. True to its name, Free CD-DA Extractor won't cost you a dime, but it also doesn't skimp on performance. The CD-ripping tool immediately displays artist and track information as soon as you put a disc in your PC's drive and makes it abundantly clear how to extract tunes, such as MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, or APE files. You can not only select audio quality for each codec, but you also can specify ripping speed. In our tests, setting the application to its fastest speed didn't downgrade the audio quality, and the ability to encode tracks in the space-saving VBR mode is a nice option. Besides a ripper, Free CD-DA Extractor also lets you convert files among popular formats and contains a basic, but functional, audio player. Although not as feature-packed as some of the big-name audio applications on the market, we can still give this program the thumbs-up.Publisher's description

Version: Free CD Music Converter XS1
"Simple, Free, Does what it promises"
Pros: I was looking for a way to archive my music on my computer as some of my cd's are starting to get old and scratched. I was looking to create my legal backup of the music and this was the perfect software for it. It can create multiple file formats from .wma to .mp3. Interface is very intuitive and easy to figure out. I can do about one cd in about 5 minutes yet at the same time be doing other apps on the system including listening to music in media player or winamp or listening to another cd in my other drive.
Cons: The output file name section is not the most intuitive thing in the world, but after fiddling for 10 or so minutes I got it working so not really a big deal.

Version: Free CD Music Converter XS1
Pros: Most people take the reviews here seriously before uploading software (especially freeware) to our flaky and sensitive PCs (or Macs?). That's why I rarely leave a review for any software before I'm sure it's at least as good as it claims. Well, this is one that doesn't blow its own trumpet as it rightly should. The user interface and ease of use are awesome but are surpassed by the speed of reading the CD, getting CDDB data and ripping. Anything I threw at it from recent hits to little-heard CD's, it not only instantly recognized but placed in the correct genre from an in-built inexhaustible list. Even better, you can customize any single line item without scrolling to choose from a list, simply type the genre, artist etc. And get this- I threw some really scratched CDs and it read with ease, it labored a bit on some scratched ones but nothing else, even my desktop CD player could even recognize those disks. Suffice it to say, if you're looking for a rip/converter that you will master in 3 minutes, that will do an amazing job and at terrific speeds, Free CD Music Converter is it. Definitely a winner.
Cons: Nothing not to like.
