Snoopers can't find or access the files you hide using Folder Lock, even in DOS or under other operating systems. This application provides two levels of protection: you can merely lock files and folders, or you can encrypt them using the 256-bit Blowfish algorithm. When you boot up the program, it'll ask you for a master password. Hitting the Browse link locates and lock folders anywhere on your computer, or you can simply secure them via the context menu. Encryption is limited in the free version to 25 MB.
Although the too-cute-for-words interface doesn't make them easy to find, Folder Lock does have a treasure trove of Advanced features, accessible after you hit the Options button. You can set files to be shredded, force the computer to shut down after failed entry attempts, erase document history, the clipboard and more, and enter into Stealth mode, which hides the app's presence on your computer.
The interface, which includes simple animations for no reason other than to "entertain" you, would be better served by a more standard layout that makes options readily and easily available. No doubt to excite your inner lock-breaking child, the octagonal purplish blue layout is supplemented with three more skins when you purchase the full version.
In our tests, the program demonstrated good speed, even when securing large folders. If you share a PC and need to keep certain files to yourself, you should definitely give Folder Lock a try.
Publisher's description
From NewSoftwares.net :Folder Lock is a fast data encryption and password protection software for Windows. It can simultaneously encrypt, lock and password protect your files, folders, drives, USB drives and even CD/DVD-RW. Folder Lock creates encrypted storages called 'Lockers'. You can keep as many of your private files & folders in your Locker and password protect them with a single click. Furthermore, Folder Lock's options like hack attempt monitoring, stealth mode, data shredding, history cleaning & auto protection can enhance data security beyond anything ever achieved. In addition, a locker's delete, move and rename are password protected to prevent data loss.
Version 6.0.1 adds 256-bit AES on-the-fly encryption, locking and hiding of files, folders and drives, new easy-to-use User interface. Multi User capability with better Stealth Mode, Auto Protection, History Cleaning, Hack Attempt Monitoring and Shredding.

Version: Folder Lock 6.0.1
"Beautiful, elegant and easy to use"
Pros: This a sophisticated security product, I've been using other products until this one
Cons: I feel like they should have a Virtual Keyboard option or something similar to avoid keyloggers also when entering password.
Summary: Overall this is a great product, I love the fact that the data is not only encrypted using 256 bit encryption but the lockers are undeletable also. No other product can offer both locking and encryption at the same time with such speed and security.... read more >>

Version: Folder Lock 6.0.1
"Terrible! Crashed my Vista system! Stay away from it!"
Pros: I liked Version 5.95- version 6.0 sucks!
Cons: After installation I should have known something was wrong when Vista gave a warning message about a file called "Win 32FL.sys". Afetr rebooting it crashed my system with blues screen of death, and it was very hard to remove FolderLock after that.
Summary: Features are good IF they work, and that's a big if. Their customer support was only interested in making me & my computer a guinea pig to test why their POS software crashed my compuetr. All requests for a refund were ignored, so don't buy th... read more >>

Version: Folder Lock 6.0.1
"lock option does not truely hide your filessystem"
Pros: * this is easy to use, and portable and copyable to other drives such as USB pen drives and other systems. It is quick to load.
Cons: This does not fully hide your Locker folder
If you store your files on a USB drive they can read be read in a Linux system
If you back them up with Acronis they can be read in the acronis archiveSummary: not secure enough if your files fall into the hands of an advanced computer user
* a better approach would be encryption at a filesystem level, rather than windows folder permisisons. Perhaps creating some sort of Psuedo filesystem in a... read more >> -
