Snoopers can't find or access the files you hide using Folder Lock, even in DOS or under other operating systems. This application also erases your Recent Documents history, so intruders don't know what to search for. The attractive lock-like interface simply presents the program functions. You can click the Browse link to locate and lock folders anywhere on your computer, or you can simply secure them via a right click.

You also have the option to shred files for permanent removal, monitor hackers who try to break in to your secured files (and shut down the computer after three wrong passwords), and enable stealth mode so would-be wrongdoers can't even see the folders you have locked. In our tests, the program demonstrated good speed, even when securing large folders. If you share a PC and need to keep certain files to yourself, you should definitely give Folder Lock a try.

Publisher's description

From NewSoftwares :

Folder Lock is fast file-security software that can password-protect, lock, hide, and encrypt any number of files, folders, drives, pictures, and documents in seconds. Locked files are undeletable, unrenamable, unmovable, hidden, and inaccessible. You can lock, scramble, or encrypt depending on speed and security. Folder Lock is fully portable, so you can protect your files on USB flash drives, disks, CD-RWs, notebooks, and hard disks, and it doesn't require installation on another PC. Folder Lock protects files in Windows, DOS, and Safe modes, even when you change your OS or boot from a disk. Folder Lock doesn't let you delete its own program folder, and it can't be uninstalled without the correct password. Additional options include Stealth Mode, Hacker Attempt Monitoring, Shred files, AutoLock, Auto Shutdown PC, Lock your PC, Erase PC tracks, 256-bit Blowfish Encryption and Context Menu in Explorer.

    Version: Folder Lock 5.7.3

"BUYER BEWARE!!!! THEY WILL SCREW YOU!"

by YousafMS on April 24, 2007

Pros: I bought this software approximately one year ago. It works great on Windows XP & it's easy to use.

Cons: When I purchased it, the company who makes the software boasted unlimited upgrades for life at no charge (and they still claim this). After installing Windows Vista, I had nothing but problems with this software. I uninstalled it BUT KEPT ALL OF MY REGISTERED USER INFO (like my user ID, my order number & my user key). When I learned that they upgraded the program to work with Windows Vista, they refused to assist me to re-download the application from their secured servers and the as*hole who's doing their tech. support actually tried to sell me another copy for something I've already paid for. WITH RIP-OFF COMPANIES LIKE THIS, IT'S NO WONDER PEOPLE CHOSE TO PIRATE SOFTWARE.

    Version: Folder Lock 5.7.3

"Not as advertised and support doesn't exist"

by ougee on April 20, 2007

    Pros: Simple interface

Cons: They advertise it as all feature decryption on the fly software but in fact the only thing it does is create a protected folder where you're supposed to copy all your confidential files. This is not convenient at all. When they say "you can protect any number of folders in seconds" that's not true because files are not really protected because any idiot can reboot your PC in safe mode and access those files anyway. The truth is you can really protect only ONE folder which this program creates at start-up and as I already said this is not convenient.

Also impossible to uninstall the program under Vista. I've emailed the support but got no response.

Resume. They lie in the advertisement. The program is not worth what they're asking (you can get this kind of so called protection for free with other programs). The lack of support adds up to my bad impression.

    Version: Folder Lock 5.7.3

"Folder Lock Repeatedly Crashed My Computer."

by Elliander on April 30, 2007

Pros: Well, it does what it says. (When in Safe Mode) - The Locked Folder Cannot be seen unless the program is not only running but has it unlocked, even if on removable storage media like a Flash Drive or a CD-ROM. And the look and feel was very nice. If It was compatible with my computer I might actually like it. _________________________________________ Note: It is possible the problems I experianced are only related to my version of windows or perhaps in combination of certain hardware or software. There were no permanent problems after removing it, and it does run fine in safe mode, so it might work fine for you. Despite the problems I experianced, I recognize that this program is not without potential, and although I caution to be wary, others have had all positive experiances so I would suggest you at least give it a try.

Cons: The first time I clicked to run it my computer crashed and started up again. Then every single time the computer would restart, the moment it would get to the point of loading up folder lock again it would crash before even displaying the program. So I loaded up safe mode, and thankfully, it would not automatically start up and crash my computer. But it would not uninstall WITHOUT running. I was reluctant to load it even in safe mode, but I did, and with significant relief I was able to load it just fine.

So I copied it to my Flash drive with it's program features, then uninstalled it from the computer itself. Then in normal mode, I later tried running it from the flash drive. It crashed again. And from a flash drive, that is the worst possible outcome, because incorrectly turning off a computer while a flash drive is running a program can break a flash drive. Then on restart, it automatically crashed the computer again, which meant that for some reason the host computer tried to automatically run it. I don't like the idea of it leaving traces of itself on a host computer. So I had to go into safe mode again, where I am now, and just finished removing it.

Each time uninstalling it would open an e-mail form asking me why I uninstalled it, but the e-mail form does not contain a "To" address. Which I thought was strange.

From what I heard the features sound nice, but this is just insane. If I ever even try Folder Lock again it will be a very long time from now. ______________

Computer is a Pentium 4 3.60 GHz, 1 GB RAM, Windows XP Media Center Edition. NTFS.

Flash Drive is an 8 GB A-DATA FAT32

    Program was version 5.3.2
