Snoopers can't find or access the files you hide using Folder Lock, even in DOS or under other operating systems. This application also erases your Recent Documents history, so intruders don't know what to search for. The attractive locklike interface simply presents the program functions. You can click on the Browse link to locate and lock folders anywhere on your computer, or you can simply secure them via a right-click. You also have the option to shred files for permanent removal, monitor hackers who try to break in to your secured files (and shut down the computer after three wrong passwords), and enable stealth mode so would-be wrongdoers can't even see the folders you have locked. In our tests, the program demonstrated good speed, even when securing large folders. If you share a PC and need to keep certain files to yourself, you should definitely have a look at this application.Publisher's description
From NewSoftwares.net :Folder Lock is fast file-security software that can password-protect, lock, hide, and encrypt any number of files, folders, drives, pictures, and documents in seconds. Locked files are undeletable, unrenamable, unmovable, hidden, and inaccessible. You can lock, scramble, or encrypt depending on speed and security. Folder Lock is fully portable, so you can protect your files on USB flash drives, disks, CD-RWs, notebooks, and hard disks, and it doesn't require installation on another PC. Folder Lock protects files in Windows, DOS, and Safe modes, even when you change your OS or boot from a disk. Folder Lock doesn't let you delete its own program folder, and it can't be uninstalled without the correct password. Additional options include Stealth Mode, Hacker Attempt Monitoring, Shred files, AutoLock, Auto Shutdown PC, Lock your PC, Erase PC tracks, 256-bit Blowfish Encryption and Context Menu in Explorer.

Version: Folder Lock 5.5.7
"This product DOES NOT prevent data from being read and accessed."
Pros: None
Cons: 1.(I hate to say it), but I didn't like getting an email from 'Folder Lock' that bribed me to leave a five star rating at this site in exchange for a free program--as I would guess many other reviewers have done. Thought I would leave a more realistic review. 2. I contacted support when my machine constantly crashed with "Operating System Not Found" error messages after installing Folder Lock. Was told to install to another path. Installing the product to another path made Folder Lock stable, but ALL my information was readable simply by rebooting with a Linux Knoppix 3.8 boot disk. The program LOOKED LIKE it was working within Windows, but after booting with a Linux boot disk and navigating to the folder, all the information was accessable. I Scrambled a folder full of data, booted to Linux and navigated to the 'Locked-Scrambled' folder. The folder and file names, were all scrambled. The program looked like it had worked. But when I simply clicked on the files to open them, all the data within was readable. Even files in pdf format were readable. Didn't matter if locked, scrambled, or encrypted. 3. I do not dual boot with Linux. I only used a Linux boot disk, that can be used on any computer. I use WinXP pro. 4. The browse function supposedly lets you lock ANY folder anywhere on the computer. NOT if you use a Linux boot disk. 5. I bought the program so I could install it on my pen drive to protect my email. I use portable Thunderbird. When I plugged the pendrive into a machine running Linux, all the data was readable. I could read email, addresses, names, phone numbers and other private data from the 'so called' locked folder. 5. Not a newbie. I have five computer certifications.. Constantly maintain and update virus, spyware, and firewall protection. Even reloaded, reformatted and reinstalled in order to try and get the program to work successfully.
I spent over fifty bucks on two licenses and have since removed it completely from my machine and pen drives.
Sorry, but I had to say it.

"DON'T DOWNLOAD. Why do programs like this become popular?"
Cons: Look, I know what I'm talking about and I know what I'm doing. And I'm not the only one who realizes this is crap: Check out compguru's review a page or two back. Here are the problems with this program: -->(1) The security of this program can and has been breached by people in the past- more than once! I have done it. compguru did it. -->(2) They attempt to bribe you into giving good reviews. Which people have done. -->(3) The GUI is unstable. Some people have installed this and the user interface was so buggy and messed up that they couldn't use the program at all! Period! -->(4) The program claims that no-one can uninstall it without typing in the password. That is untrue! I've successfully uninstalled the program without typing in any password.
Please oh please! Don't waist your time and money on this junk! There other programs that can lock your files and folders much more easily, honestly, securely and effectively. -Myself

"Conflicts with other important software"
Pros: Easy to use, quickly locks (or appears to) USB drive
Cons: One of the drivers for this program will crash your computer if you run PerfectDisk or Spybot. Its a flaw in the driver that the author hasn't addressed, despite repeated complaints.

"Problem with install & uninstall"
Pros: Nice GUI...
Cons: I tried to install the new version of this program but I was able to meet some problems. Whenever I run the Install Shield it would give me an error message saying that I should first uninstall the last version. Problem is... I already did so but the error still shows up...
