Publisher's description of Flash Player 9.0.47
From Adobe Systems:Flash Player 9 is a lightweight, highly expressive client runtime that delivers powerful and consistent user experiences across major operating systems, browsers, mobile phones, and devices. Flash Player 9 builds on the advances in Flash Player 8 by focusing on three main areas: creating a more robust programming model, achieving standards compliance, and improving performance.
Version 9 of Flash Player includes ActionScript 3, a significant update to the scripting language of the runtime that provides a familiar syntax and compelling new language features; and new Flash Player APIs, such as those for the display list, enabling greater creative control over content and applications.

- "Essential for video"
- Reviewed on: December 5, 2008
- Version reviewed: Flash Player 9.0.47
Adobe's latest version of the Flash Player browser plug-in is just as trouble-free as previous versions, existing unobtrusively in your system until Web-based animations, games, or ubiquitous Flash ads require its services.
The latest version downloads and installs quickly, and will probably always require a browser restart. Our tests turned up nothing to make us scratch our heads, and upgrading from version 9 to the current one has fixed for many people a bug that caused embedded video to freeze.
You need a Flash Player to experience the Web at its fullest, so users at any level of expertise should have no qualms about installing or upgrading to Flash 10.

Version: Flash Player 9.0.47
Pros: It's necessary.. basically almost every web page you visit will need the flash player.
Cons: Uh I didn't like the fact that Macromedia joined up with Adobe. Afterwards, Macromedia products got a lot more bloated. This player, also, didn't download or install for me no matter how many times I tried. It said it installed, but really didn't. I did some research and was able to find another program to tweak IE7 in order for the player to work...

Version: Flash Player 9.0.47
Pros: NONE
Cons: I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THESE PUBLISHERS PUSHING THEIR "NON EXISTENT PROGRAMS" AND GETTING AWAY WITH IT. "THIS DOES NOT DOWNLOAD OR INSTALL"
ADOBE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. IN ADDITION THEY ARE PRETTY HOSTILE AND RELUCTANT WHEN IT COMES TO SUPPORT.

Version: Flash Player 9.0.47
"Why is this on Download.com??"
Pros: It is what it is. You should visit adobe.com and update the flash runtime (as well as shockwave) around once a month to be sure you're not missing out on. I can't complain. It does what it's supposed to, which is allow you to play up-to-date flash animations on your web browser.
Cons: Why is this on Download.com? That's like putting every single Windows Update as a "download" on download.com. It's more like a driver update. All these people who don't know any better (and many of them really should) see the little picy with the player controls and think this is a stand-alone application that opens and plays SWF files saved on a hard drive.
Folks, if you want to use this flash player after you install it, your only option is to drag the SWF file into your web browser. Otherwise see if you can't find something else. I'm not lurking for you.
