CNET Editors' review
File Warder is a mix of the good, the bad, and the downright ugly, but there's no problem with its encryption and decryption capabilities. The program installs easily enough and presents a compact interface with all functions neatly organized. Some apps make a normally uncomplicated process too complex, but File Warder keeps it simple. The only controls needed to run this app are radio buttons to select encryption or decryption plus a few other function buttons. Options are limited but cover all the basics. The only truly bad part of this program is the Help file, which is so full of typos and nearly incomprehensible English that it's almost painful to read.
There's a field to enter a password and a check box to apply it, a slider bar to set the level of encryption, and a check box to autodelete the source file after encryption. Three buttons allow you to choose a file, start the process, or close the app. Based on the no-frills interface, we were surprised to find that you could easily select multiple files for one-step encryption or decryption. The program also adds context menu options when viewing files in Explorer.
If you want to share encrypted files with others, they'll need their own copy of Files Warder for decryption. Despite the more sophisticated aspects of this program, you can't choose the directory to place encrypted or decrypted files. File Warder drops them in the same place as the source file, but sticks "EN" onto the file name. If you decrypt a file, it adds "DE" after the "EN" to the file name.
The 15-day trial is short, but still offers more than enough time to fully test this program. This isn't a flawless app, but Files Warder gets it right where it matters, and it's easy enough for anyone to use.
