It's supposed to give users a way to add notes to their files, but in reality this application is just a quick way to create a text file of the same name. File Note is added as a new context menu option. When you select it, it automatically creates a Notepad file named the same as the selected file.
To be fair, the operation was speedy and effective, and the newly created text file was conveniently saved in the same location as the source file. However, because the note isn't integrated with the file itself, you'll have to take an extra step if you want to share your notes when you send the file to others.
Most users probably won't think too much of this simple application, and even its freeware status doesn't add much to its allure.

From Moon Software :FileNote is a little shell extension that allows you to add textual descriptions to your files. It adds one command to the shell context menu of a file object. This command lets you easily edit or create a text file that has the same name as the initial file, but with the extension TXT. For example, if you have a file, MyImage.jpg, you right-click on that file and choose the FileNote command from the context menu. A new text file called MyImage.txt is created and Notepad is opened to edit that text file. If a text file with that name already exists, it will be opened for viewing/editing.)

Version: FileNote 1.1
Pros: I have always opened Notepad to make a note about anything I downloaded because the setup names are often cryptic and I seldom install them right away. Then when I'm ready to install, I can easily determine which setup file is for which application. FileNote makes this a quick simple process since I no longer have to search for Notepad. Before I found FileNote, I often wanted to make notes about other files on my system so I could save myself the trouble of loading a whole program to see what it was or if it was the version I was looking for, but it was too much trouble to do so. Now it is just a quick simple task so I am saving myself loads of time.
Cons: There are no cons if you have a reason to use it.

"Limited use, but really handy for some things"
Pros: I have used this for years to label downloaded files that have unhelpful filenames. It can be hard to remember what bf1760.exe or setup.exe is when you're tidying up your downloads file.
Just right click the file and in the NotePad window that opens enter the application name, version, and anything else you want to record. Then save this text file with the downloaded file.
I haven't found any other uses for this, but for me it serves this one purpose brilliantly.
