"It was fine"

November 22, 2014  |  By aliz.sardi

 |  Version: File Scavenger Data Recovery Utility 4.3

Pros

It worked great. Everything from my computer was back and functional. I didn't tested when the computer is crashed but hopefully does the same good job.

Cons

Maybe for beginners a more simple version (like right click on recycle bin and recuperate). Just I thought because for me was fine.

"This app saved me"

November 21, 2014  |  By funnypinkie1

 |  Version: File Scavenger Data Recovery Utility 4.3

Pros

Fast Recovery Rate, Simple to Use. Also I don't see any of the spam like some had mentioned. Maybe their computers were already messed up.

Cons

Nothing Significant

Summary

My computer just crashed. After re-installed the OS, my computer still cannot see my 3TB data drive. I was panic since this drive contains all my family pictures and other important stuff. I searched Google, Download, read some reviews and decided to use this software. I was so glad to recover all my files. Thanks.

"Does not work at all"

August 12, 2014  |  By Michleeloor

 |  Version: File Scavenger Data Recovery Utility 4.2

Pros

It won't even see any files in the formatted card. Any other recovery software I've used, sees the files, but doesn't do a good job at recovering video. so i used another data recovery tool from
http://software.bigbigsoft.com/data-recovery

It recovers instantly all data.

Cons

sorry, but spam, toolbars, extra gaming software, and other random crap installing without asking me first is unacceptable and is then to me considered spam-ware.

Summary

This program (trial) does not function well at all. The files it found were random and folders limited to the search criteria. No flexibility. It did not find any of the files I was looking for. It just found tmp files and random crap nobody would care about.

"Total RAID 0 XFS recovery from a Buffalo Linkstation!"

July 02, 2014  |  By stayloa

 |  Version: File Scavenger Data Recovery Utility 4.2

Pros

XFS support - vital for many NAS setups
RAID 0/5 support
Very quick (6 hours thorough scan on a 6TB RAID compared to 6 days using another program)
Support for image files taken from dying disks
Very fast copying speed
Ability to export search results to a CSV file
Ability to save state after a scan
Estimated 'health' of files before actually recovering them
Competitively priced within the market

Cons

You need to know the stripe size of your RAID 0/5 array which isn't easily available if you didn't manually set up the RAID yourself, as well as the drive order.
The company would (seemingly) charge you to help determine things like the stripe size as part of their remote RAID recovery service. This is an assumption however as I already knew the parameters.

Summary

This worked where many many other failed.

I woke up one morning to my Buffalo Linkstation Duo 6TB RAID 0 NAS being unresponsive and flashing the firmware wouldn't bring it back to life.

I immediately got the drives out and discovered SMART errors on one, so used ddrescue to take an image of the failing drive in Linux.

There aren't many recovery tools that support RAID as well as XFS and this one was less well advertised.

Gparted in Linux showed one of the RAID partitions as unallocated, so I clearly had some corruption on the drive and this was enough to confuse all of the other data recovery suites.

Only one other suite was giving any promising results, but scans were taking days and at the point of trying this, about 8 days of time had been spent to recreate my RAID but not detect a valid filesystem.

When I stumbled across this, having used many other bigger names, I was not holding out hope.

Thankfully, Reclaime's free RAID recovery software was able to detect my RAID settings (disk order and stripe size - although be careful to note whether the result is in KB or sectors).

Once I had that info, I recreated the RAID and within seconds of clicking scan, my files in their intact directory structure were coming up!

A day or so later and I'm doing copying everything back over with no errors and seemingly no file damage!

If anyone else has a similar issue, try this first!

"Recovered it all!"

November 13, 2013  |  By kukumisu

 |  Version: File Scavenger Data Recovery Utility 4.2

Pros

Recovered absolutely everything pretty much as I had left it: Files, folders, Powerpoints, word docs, AVI. files - everything!

GUI is easy to navigate

Everything is pretty self explanatory

Cons

None whatsoever

Summary

I had spent hours looking at other software that only partially recovered files and gave me results that were no good to work with. File Scavenger recovered 10gb worth of data from a corrupted flash drive. I can't praise it highly enough. Best cash I've ever spent. I recovered documents that had taken me hours and hours to produce - all laid out in their original folders as on the flash drive. Save yourself a headache download now!

"Remarkably effective in recovering data."

November 12, 2013  |  By Geoff Sjostrom

 |  Version: File Scavenger Data Recovery Utility 4.2

Pros

Very effective, reasonable price.

Cons

Program assumes you know what you're doing, and the help files aren't particularly helpful.

Summary

I recently had a severe computer crash, and in trying to recover data I ham-handedly managed to damage the disk that had an excellent backup of all my information. I tried three disk recovery programs in succession: VirtualLab Client, Iolo Search and Recover, and File Scavenger. All have similar marketing schemes: They will scan your damaged disk and identify recoverable files for free, but to actually recover those files, you have to purchase a license. That seems fair enough to me.

The Iolo and File Scavenger products cost about $50 each, and VirtualLab cost about $100. VirtualLab recovered a handful of files, randomly named and including many duplicates and damaged files. Iolo recovered a smaller handful of files, in similar condition.

File Scavenger recovered about 80% of my files, completely intact, correctly named. Another 10-15% were recovered with random names, but were otherwise undamaged and completely useful. I wish I'd found File Scavenger before I wasted my money on those other programs.

It wasn't quick: It took over 24 hours to scan my 2Tb disk, and about ten of those hours were spent as the progress indicator moved from 72% to 75%. So if you try it, don't assume that it's crashed just because things appear to be going slowly. And since File Scavenger doesn't alter the disk that it's scanning (which could cause more damage) you will need a separate disk to receive the files that it recovers.

Needless to say, I highly recommend the program. If you've had a disk disaster or are anticipating one, go to quetek.com and get File Scavenger. It will be the best fifty bucks you ever spent.

"Easy, Fast & Accurate"

January 26, 2013  |  By coronajrrr

 |  Version: File Scavenger Data Recovery Utility 4.0

Pros

This is the first time I have been so appreciative of a software purchase that I felt compelled to write a review. Installing Windows 8 made my system so unstable that it corrupted a 2TB iOMEGA eSATA/USB2.0 external HD. It was so bad that while the drive could be seen, any attempt to read files on it showed the drive was "not formatted" and asking whether one wanted to format the drive now. After trying normal procedures to fix the problem failed (i.e. rebooting, trying different eSATA and USB ports, using a different computer to read the disk), I tried different software programs. The first 2 (Nero 12 & Image Rescue 4.0), were useless because couldn't access any part of the disk. This program immediately read the entire disk and enabled me to recover all the files that were precious to me. Because this was such a strong program, it allowed me to assess it's worth prior to buying it. For me, this was a great buy.

Cons

None at all.

Summary

By allowing an advance showing of what it could do, I was able to determine this was the program which could solve a very difficult and potentially disastrous problem for me. I am very grateful to it's designer.
