FieldRunners is a polished tower defense game with crisp graphics, realistic sounds, and extremely addictive gameplay. Instead of defending a set path like in many games of this genre, in FieldRunners you need to construct your towers in such a way to force the baddies to take the most damage. We had the most luck by creating a sort of maze which forces the soldiers to double back and take damage from the same towers several times. As you progress you earn money, which allows you to buy more towers and to upgrade old ones. You also can unlock maps as you get further into the game, adding different challenges and new scenarios that will test your strategic planning. FieldRunners doesn't have as many available towers as other tower defense games, but the developers continue to improve the game and promise more towers and content in coming releases. Either way, any tower defense fan will appreciate the overall look and feel of this challenging and highly addictive game.

Pros
Almost endless playability. Great blend of thinking-planning-strategy and action. We all love to see the enemy get blown to smithereens.
Cons
Medium levels are a little too hard for me, obviously not for others. I would appreciate a somewhat more gradated increase in difficulty.
This little bugger has burned up more of my time than any game in the last 20 years.Summary
There are several different permutations of the Tower Defense game style. I've tried them all (or at least most of them) and Fieldrunners is the best!
Currently there are three "fields of battle" and six tower types. Three different fields of battle doesn't seem like enough, but because the enemies do not follow a fixed path there are almost endless ways to try and foil the persistent little buggers. All towers have two upgrade levels. There are Machine Gun turrets, Goo towers, which slow the onslaught a bit. There are Patriot Missile-esq Rocket Launchers, Flame towers, Tesla (lightning) towers and last but not least an underground silo which throws tactical nuclear bombs.
The enemies come in several flavors and they do not follow a fixed path. They do unerringly head for their goal. As you place towers to block and destroy them they follow a often non-intuitive goal seeking algorithm to get past you and get to your base. There are at least three types of infantry. They come at you in both single file and double file. Sometimes there is only one type of soldier in the rush, sometimes more than one. There are at least four types of mechanized soldiers, from zippy little motorcycles to huge, almost indestructible mechs which remind me a little of the cargo handling mech Sigourny Weaver ran in Aliens, although these roll instead of walk. There are several types of Airplanes, Helicopters (damn those helicopters), and Blimps.
Fieldrunners is the first game in many years which provides what I feel is the perfect blend of strategy and action. I haven't spent this much time with any game for decades. I may have upwards of 100 hours on the game and I'm not even close to being done with this game. Even the defeats are enjoyable. For the price, Fieldrunners is the best value on the iPhone! -

Pros
It's really easy to start playing, but progressively gets harder challenging your creativity. If you suddenly stop, it auto-saves so you can resume later. The graphics are excellent. The game is stable so your phone won't crash.
Cons
Your girlfriend might despise the amount of time you will want to play this game. Wait, is that a compliment?
