ExtractNow could use a bit of sprucing up. The dead-simple and cheetah-quick installation brings you to an expanse of white that sits on top of four buttons. That's it. It's not an interface that sells the feature set, but it's the feature set that users will be most interested in.
The program should appeal to users who handle a high volume of archives, because all it does is extract archive contents. The four buttons--Settings, History, Clear, and Extract--lay out the basics. Click Settings and a window pops up to entice you with options. From the boilerplate specials like Always on Top or Start with Windows to more detailed customizations such as delineating a default extraction directory, setting file extensions to ignore, and adjusting post-extraction behavior, ExtractNow gives users as much flexibility as possible when it comes to batch archive extractions. You can, for instance, set it to delete archives after their files have been extracted.
It is not an archiver, though, and won't be able to replace your favorite archiver. But if you're more about receiving than giving when it comes to ZIPs, RARs, and TARs, ExtractNow can save you a massive amount of time.

Version: ExtractNow 3.35
Pros: The program is simple and to the point. Very light on CPU and makes uncompressing files a snap.
Cons: The GUI needs a little bit more work, but more importantly I miss being able to open a compressed file and drag a single file out and have it decompress on-the-fly, without having to use the [browse...] button and select a defined area.
That feature alone is a deal breaker. I deal with Zip and Rar files a lot and sometimes I just want a few files on my desktop. WinZip, WinRar, and WinAce all make the job a lot easier. I'm a fan of WinRar myself and have abanded it only because of its nasty habit of not releasing ownership of filetypes (.ISO in particular).

Version: ExtractNow 3.35
"Superb file extraction utility..."
Pros: This free, powerful extractor can extract files from over a dozen different archive formats, including ZIP, RAR, ISO, BIN, ACE, and JAR. In addition, its support for drag-and-drop batch file conversion saves time and effort, something the Windows extractor would rather waste. Finally, I have found it to get the job done faster than most of the other free alternatives, making this my favorites and primary extraction utility.
Cons: The only downside is that it cannot create compressed archives, only extract the contents from them.
