Just like its uninspired name, this file encryption program lacks any kinds of bells and whistles. It works, but offers fewer options than some freeware alternatives.
Encryption has a small, sparse user interface with two buttons, one for encryption, and another for decryption. There's a link to the publisher's Web site, but no Help file. We started by clicking on the encryption button. From there, we entered and confirmed a password, and the original file was immediately replaced with the encrypted file. When we tried to access it, we received a message stating, in so many words, that the file could be corrupted. The corrupt message, according to the publisher, is supposed to thwart any prying eyes. Decrypting the file was just as easy because it followed the same steps. We browsed for, and selected, the encrypted file, entered our password, and the file was instantly decrypted.
You won't find any algorithm or compression choices with Encryption, and you can't choose to keep or shred the source file, or select the output directory. If the program was free, we'd at least recommend it for novices. As it stands, there are plenty of free encryption programs out there that offer more options but are just as easy to use.
Publisher's description
From PB Software :Encryption is an easy to use program to protect your files safely and securely. We have used an excellent encryption algorithm to protect your files. Encryption does not change the name of your file or change the icon of the file when it is done encrypting it. The file looks the same as it did from before the process began. Only Encryption knows when it has been encrypted. If people look at the file on first view it just looks like the original file. Then, if they try to open it, a message such as file may be corrupt is displayed from the program that they are using to look at it. You must open the file that you encrypted with our program called Encryption to decrypt it.
