This free browser plug-in notifies you of freshly delivered e-mail messages as you surf the Web, though functionality problems mar its performance. Email Notifier rests on your IE browser and periodically checks both Web-based and POP3 e-mail accounts. The program was designed to play a sound when e-mails arrive, with the toolbar showing the number of new messages. Unlike similar apps, you'll also find a few welcome extras that include options to remove unused buttons from the toolbar, options to incorporate other system components such as program links, a built-in pop-up blocker, cookie and cache sweeper, a history cleaner for the toolbar as well as IE, and weather forecasts. It also lets you search via eBay, Dictionary.com, Shopping.com, and more, and we like that it can highlight searched terms on sites. Although most features worked fairly well, the cache sweeper froze the program during testing and, to our dismay, Email Notifier failed to connect to POP3 accounts. Also, it didn't play a sound and wasn't able to show the number of new e-mails when they arrived. Coupled with functionality problems and the fact that it works exclusively with Internet Explorer, most users will need to continue searching for a suitable application in this category.

Cons
I didn't get any choice as to where I wanted to download it to, it just went straight onto my C drive. You don't get just a email notifier, you get a whole new toolbar with all its bells and whistles. Not what I wanted at all.
