CNET editors' review

EmEditor Professional has the kind of hybridity we find irresistible and oh-so-advantageous in a text-editing program. This versatile editor combines a macro creator worthy of programming pundits with full-fledged, feature-rich text-editing capabilities clothed in a clean, color-coded interface. Developers and power users will love the wealth of languages and syntaxes, including C#, C , Java, PERL, PHP, Python, SQL, and XML. Though the macro creator has been boosted in this version to record PerlScript, PHPScript, Python, and Ruby keystrokes, users who need to record mouse movements should look elsewhere. We appreciate the stackable tabs, the multithreading windows, and the option to apply a 64-bit version (not tested).Publisher's description
From Emurasoft :EmEditor Professional, a text editor for Windows, supports JavaScript or VBScript macros, Unicode, plug-ins, syntax highlighting (including embedded scripts in HTML, ASP, and PHP files), drag-and-drop, and menu and keyboard customizations. This release is the first major upgrade for more than two years. EmEditor now runs in one process even when multiple files are opened and no matter whether the tab is used. This allows EmEditor to start much faster when multiple files are selected to open, and to reduce memory usage. Multiple windows now run as multi-threading. Many plug-in commands and macro methods have been added to navigate multiple documents. The new feature also includes powerful tab functions including window-grouping; any tab item can be dragged-and-dropped into another group to join or to create a new group. The tab bar can be extended to multiple rows or the width can be automatically adjusted when it doesn't fit in the window. The 64-bit edition is also available.
Version 5 now runs in one process even when multiple files are opened and no matter whether the tab is used. Multiple windows now run as multi-threading. Many plug-in commands and macro methods have been added to navigate multiple documents.

Version: EmEditor Professional 5
Pros: Compared to TextPad, UltraEdit, and even some open source editors like ScITE, I found EmEditor to beat them all (IMHO). EmEditor contains many features, easily customizable, a very easy UI, and a free academic licence too! What more could I ask for?

Version: EmEditor Professional 5
"What the Windows Notepad should have been"
Pros: EmEditor has been my default note pad, html editor and view source app for years. It's got a clean interface and loads just as quickly as Microsoft Notepad does. Code formatting and coloring is excellent and extensible via plug-ins. A new tabbed interface means that you can have several instances of EmEditor opened but not worry about cluttering up your desktop or taskbar.
Cons: EmEditor has plug-ins which allow you one click access to previewing your work in a browser. Plug-ins for IE, Opera and Mozilla are all available but, as of yet, there isn't a plug-in for Firefox.

Version: EmEditor Professional 5
Pros: Regex find/replace for multiple files; good handling of massive text files; syntax highlight; ability to handle most, if not all encodings; free for students :)

"Like they said, best text editor ever!"
Pros: I love the beautiful interface, the speed, and the plug-in support. I also appreciate having a separate HTML source viewer, and the tray icon is very useful.
