Elmedia Player is a Flash and media player for Mac OS X. It will play media on Mac for absolutely free! Summary
I like Elmedia Player simplicity. I know that there are a lot of ways to download videos for free, but I like to do it using Elmedia Player. I can save YouTube videos on my Mac in several clicks and then play all of them using the same app.

"Why would a Player install a file for "root process"???"

Didn't come across any useful benefit of this software, not to say that there aren't any.
Cons
This software had installed something called "empdaemon" in system root folder, which started to hog CPU resources.
Summary
When I tried to uninstall Elmedia Player though "CleanApp", it showed some relevant files, which i also deleted, one of them being "empdaemon.kext". It won't even let trash be emptied. Had to quit/kill the process "empdaemon" which was being shown as a "root process"through activity monitor to empty the trash.

For those with massive FLV collections, I suppose it's good... But I don't know who would need an iTunes for FLV videos...

Poor User InterfaceSummary
I always hope that updates give something better to a program... In this case, the great, light weight player that was once simply SWF/FLV Player is now an annoying, library browsing, clunky iTunes-esque video browser. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I don't want to open the application and search through the poor UI for my videos. Nor when I open an FLV do I want it to stay in the player, that's what open -recent is for.
When I want to watch an FLV filetype, I now have to wait for the large app to start up, IMPORT the file, and then play, with an uneven framerate due to a massive drain on my computer speed... I used to enjoy using this program as a "Quicktime" for FLVs, it was simple and did just what I wanted, not more. And now, it has gone so far beyond... I wish I had never updated, I should learn to never auto update software anymore.
Give us the ability to download the simple, older FLV player, this one is way too much. -

Summary
There are a lot of different players for Mac, but I always like to test something new. That's why I decided to use Elmedia Player. It's free, so I didn't have anything to lose. While playing different videos I was pleasantly surprised. It really works and I like to have one player for all my videos.

Summary
I smelled something like spoiled tamales when I downloaded this thing, but gave it a try and installed it. Working away on the Internet my MacBook's fan is blasting and I wonder what's up. There in Activity Monitor, hogging my CPU is this thing called "empdaemon". What's that? Of course Activity Monitor gives me not-a-clue, even in samples, as to what this devouring thing is. But I know how to perform a kitchen sink search in Spotlight! And there it was inside the root level Library, Application Support, ElmediaPlayer folder. So I killed that nasty process, and promptly uninstalled this nasty media player forever. If you've installed it, I suggest you do the same.
And don't forget to throw this away as well: /System/Library/Extensions/ElmediaPlayer.kext
Yes folks, this POS crapware ROOTS your system with a KEXT extension file. I'm beginning to wonder if this thing is a TROJAN HORSE.
AVOID, warn your friends and family, hide in your basement.
