From GlobalPositioningSystems.co.uk :Easy GPS Tester will automatically detect your USB or serial GPS device and display the COM port and baud rate settings required to use it. It will also show your current latitude, longitude and altitude, and information about GPS signal strength and the satellites in view. It is ideal for testing your GPS before using it with sat nav software, or if you think your GPS is faulty and not picking up satellites.

Version: Easy GPS Tester 1
"Does what it says on the tin!"
Pros: I was having trouble getting my GPS to work - the software I was trying to use it with just kept saying that the device didn't exist. Easy GPS Tester breaks the problem down into three stages - COM port found, device found on COM port, device is a GPS. It turned out that although the COM port existed no device could be found - my serial cable was faulty. I replaced this and Easy GPS Tester found the GPS straight away and gave me all of the settings I needed to use. Very simple, but did the job.
Cons: Interface isn't the most beautiful in the world! :-)

"Can't find my Garmin eTrex HC"
Cons: I installed the Easy GPS Tester and the USB drivers from the Garmin site. I rebooted, hooked up the GPS and started the program. I clicked the Auto Detect button and it scanned Com1 and Com2-15 which do NOT exist! No mention of any USB ports! Not worth the price!

Pros: Small program, easy to use, BUT...
Cons: It wouldn't detect my Garmin Rino 120 on my computer. I could find my GPS using "Mapsource" on Serial Port 9. In this software, not even Auto Detect could find my Garmin. Would have liked to have seen what info it could have found.

Pros: Nothing I can say
Cons: Detects device on COM-port, but does not identify it as GPS device.
Try "GPS Diagnostics", which dows work with my Jentro.Summary: Try it - but don't rely on it.

Pros: Plain and easy interface
Cons: Dis not discover my GPS logger, only supports ports 1 through 15
Summary: Try the program if you have plain vanilla GPS receiver and it may work for you. Make sure you know lots of GPS specifics in general and your receiver in particular.
