When moving duplicates to another folder (appeared to be safest option), all the files in that folder had the creation date set for the time of transfer. All the metadata that would allow one to verify whether the correct file was transferred, or to reconstruct the original set of files on the hard drive is removed in the transfer.
After removing the duplicates, the program modifies the index or the journaling of the hard drive in a way that caused my hard drive to dismount when I next tried to copy the remaining files from the hard drive to another hard drive. Finder said that the file format of one of the files, which happened to be one of the Apple installed system files, was not recognizable, then the hard drive dismounted, but the icon remained on the desktop. Somehow this combination caused the system to be unable to restart. I had to shut down the computer, then the hard drive wouldn't mount. I ran Disk First Aid four times, the hard drive still won't mount.
If you have a Mac, don't believe any of the good reviews. This software is dangerous, and will result in a corrupted hard drive that so far I have not been able to recover. No one in tech support appeared to know anything about Mac's. If the tech support doesn't know an answer, they just go away, and apparently ignore further posts to the thread they start for you each time you begin an inquiry. I had to ignore the message that said not to start another post, and I would get another couple of questions in before they would again disappear and not respond to the thread.
I am going to ask them for my money back, but from what I have read on the net about them, I am not going to be successful.
I can't emphasize how dangerous this program is for the Mac, and how out of touch the company is with how the Mac works. I've lost all of my back up files when running a program to simply identify and remove duplicate files.
