This program essentially enhances iTunes's built-in tool for finding duplicate songs. We appreciate that Dupe Eliminator immediately scans your iTunes library upon launch. The application highlights all potential duplicates in red, and you can easily separate these files from the pack with the press of a button. The main advantage this utility holds over iTunes built-in duplicate finder is it allows you to perform more specific searches by including criteria such as album, file type, and size. Another plus is this app's ability to identify dead links in your library. And true to form, the program turned out an accurate performance when tested using a number of configurations. However, we should note the utility does take up a fair amount of space on your hard drive. You'll find a couple of additional features, such as the ability to print out duplicate logs and sync your iPod. A small icon informs you whether or not certain songs already have art associated with them; clicking it brings up detailed information about the track. Casual iTunes users probably won't find this program necessary, but the hard-core contigent should give it a look.
Have you built a nice library of songs in iTunes but are having a hard time finding/removing duplicates and songs no longer used? With Dupe Eliminator you can use various criteria to find duplicate and no longer used music files and then with a click of a button clean up your iTunes music library no matter how large it is. Other features such as song searching, sorting, syncing your iPod, viewing the iTunes music store, and playing songs within Dupe Eliminator.
Version 2.1 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.
Pros: Sounds like a wonderful idea. I have too many duplicate songs on my iPod, and it would be wonderful to have the dupes automatically eliminated.
Cons: How the heck do you try it? Unlike other downloads, you aren't able to start the trial upon install, and the website is cryptic and offers little assistance in resolving this. Most users would get frustrated before contacting the company, I think, and I have a little anger over the whole frustration of just trying to get this one simple trial to work.
Pros: The first guy to review this is a moron plain and simple. This app actually does what it says it does, it finds duplicate songs using more sophisticated criteria than the crappy feature that comes with iTunes. It seeks out dead links and duplicate entries. This is powerful stuff for squeezing the most space out of your ipod. After I was done I was able to get all of my music into my 30 gig iPod. Couldn't do that before running this app! I would say it is indispensable. Try it!
Cons: The fact that it isn't freeware is the only bummer. It is a fully functional copy until the trial expires, so it ain't all bad. Th
