CNET Editors' review
Your computer system's drivers tell your hardware and software what to do. Without up-to-date drivers, your system won't perform to its full potential and might even experience problems. Obsolete drivers can sometimes even leave vulnerabilities and security holes that have been fixed in updates that you don't have, and why? Because updating drivers is a nuisance falling somewhere between an oil change and a dentist's appointment, that's why; and it's worse still if you're the sort of user who depends on a PC yet has no earthly idea what goes on inside the box (and like it that way, thank you very much). So, get DriverMax from Innovative Solutions. This free cloud-based tool helps you download and install up-to-date drivers practically painlessly. You'll need to create a free user account to make DriverMax work.
DriverMax scanned our PC during setup and displayed our drivers in a compact view, with up-to-date drivers marked in green and those with available updates in red. The scan found eight available updates. We simply had to click Download to get the drivers, select More Options to view an information box with links to other drivers and options, or click a Help icon to access related information. The drivers all come from a variety of sites and often download and install in different ways, too, so the ability to view other available drivers and documentation can make a big difference.
When you download a driver in the free version of DriverMax, a Web page opens with information and a download link. The Pro upgrade downloads drivers directly within the DriverMax interface, but we don't have a problem with an intermediate step since "slow, steady, and careful" (and plenty of info) add up to trouble-free upgrades and smooth sailing from then on. Of course, you can also use DriverMax as a guide for updating drivers individually using their own programs (where available). DriverMax also backs up and restores your drivers (backup = good). DriverMax proved superior to similar driver maintenance tools we've tried, with a quality look and feel; we recommend it for users of all skill levels.
DriverMax - Backup and restore drivers - Download Video Previews:Publisher's Description
From Innovative Solutions:
DriverMax is a powerful free utility which helps you download, update, backup and restore the drivers installed on your Windows PC. It automatically checks for more recent driver versions and identifies and installs missing drivers for unknown devices in your computer. Download all drivers from one place in just a few easy steps and keep your PC up to date. Backup drivers and keep all of them in one compressed file; restore them at a mouse click within a few minutes. This tool will save you a lot of time when reinstalling Windows, both on recent PCs and older computers for which the original CDs containing the drivers have been lost. You no longer have to track down old driver installation CDs, insert one installation CD after another or spend hours searching for drivers on the Internet. DriverMax is able to display a detailed report about all installed drivers (versions, release dates) and provide you with Windows Experience Index rating information before you purchase new hardware.

"A Nightmare!"
Version: DriverMax 6.38
Pros
Easy to install and uninstall
Cons
Recommends driver updates for your system that aren't recommended by hardware device manufacturer
Summary
DriverMax recommended driver updates for my older NVidia graphics card, which I downloaded and installed. After that almost any program I tried to run on my computer resulted in Windows crashing and my computer being shut down automatically. Afterwards it would re-boot in safe mode only.
I went to NVidia's website and used their online tool to determine which driver I should have installed, and it turned out to be the one I already had which was from 2009. It is an older legacy product and the newer drivers are not recommended (now I know why!).
After much frustration in uninstalling the new drivers (Windows kept crashing), and finally getting rid of DriverMax, my system is back to normal and working problem free.
My operating system is Windows Vista 32-bit, SP2.
I guess the old saying.. "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", applies here. -

"Great, and accurate!"
Version: DriverMax 6.38
Pros
Free users can download 2 drivers per day, free of charge, which is useful. In fact, it's easy tool that gives you correct and important updates all the time. Worth trying! I'm using it for a while now.
Cons
If you don't pay, you're very limited in what you can do. It involves more work on your part, but it's not too bad.
Summary
Great and handy product, it's very accurate about all system updates. Downloading and installing is simple, and it always gives you a quick solution to your new updates!

"Most reliable Drivers Update Free Utility!!"
Version: DriverMax 6.38
Pros
DriverMax has both free and paid versions with and without full access to it.but even the free version is still USABLE!that helps you to find the EXACT drivers for your PC configuration not the NEAREST driver, and best thing about this is it takes feedback at the end of the each driver update whether it really helped or not, they just don't develop a product and throw to customer for sale but also frequently get's feedback to check whether their product really helped the customer, that's the GOOD THING i like about DriverMax.
Cons
Interface looks a bit ODD and say and that's one of the BIGGEST reason why people did not want to try because they feel that it might one of those cheap software which inject MALWARE to there PC's but THAT's NOT TRUE.
Another thing is that DriverMax uses a differnt METHODOLOGY to update the drivers in your PC, not the generic way of installing the drivers as you use to it, clicking on setup.exe and install..or navigate to the Device Manager looking to locate the drivers puff..that's sick. and also that's why may be many people don't like to try it,may be DriverMax can try improving SUPPORT with good screenshots or video tutorial something helps users to understand how to use it.Summary
The bottom line is DriverMax is just what people needed who got tired of trying one of those native drivers update method or before even paid for any such programs.
DriverMax is what exactly what i needed and it Made my Day!
HATS OFF!! to the DriverMax Team. -
