Publisher's description

From Runtime Software :

DriveImage XML is an easy to use and reliable program for imaging and backing up partitions and logical drives. The program allows you to backup logical drives and partitions to image files, browse these images, view and extract files, restore these images to the same or a different drive, copy directly from drive to drive. Image creation uses Microsoft's Volume Shadow Services (VSS), allowing you to create safe "hot images" even from drives currently in use. Images are stored in XML files, allowing you to process them with 3rd party tools, so you'll never again be stuck with a useless backup. Restore images to drives without having to reboot. DriveImage XML also runs from a WinPE boot CD-ROM.

Version 1.12 added backup scheduling and command line scripting.

"invest the time, learn something new"

by hmazuji on August 23, 2006

Pros: the learning curve is way out there, you will need:1. isobuster to create a bootable cd, 2. nero burning rom or roxio to burn a cd containing an updated service pack, improvise if you want to use sonic. 3. barts preinstall environment for something i got tired of this and will have to come back to it, as well as 4. the xml plugins and then probably something else. after you have jumped through the hoops you will have learned alot. the instructions are detailed. my pc will asimilate and become one with the others.

Cons: when you have to reinvent the wheel, only then will you understand the circle. run away if you don't have the time to invest here.

    "good"

    by masta_pupa on November 11, 2006

Pros: Great for complete hard drive backups

Cons: can only backup the whole hard drive, would be nice to select file and folders you want to backup and not just the whole hard drive, its a bit hard to keep backing up 200gig+ hard drives

    "Excellent.. Just Excellent"

    by [{xx_rasengan_xx}] on March 19, 2006

Pros: DriveImage XML is an amazing !!!FREE!!! program that easily (and quickly) backs up your hard drive, fully. I was impressed by the options it had, such as Drive-to-Drive --- amazing for a free program. However; it may be a *little* bit hard to configure... you must read all the directions carefully --- check habibbijan's guide at habibbijan.com/guides/driveimage2.php for a great description.

Cons: No cons as I can see -- However, if anyone'd like to reply, I'd like to know if Drive-to-Drive actually formats the drive and restores operating system on the subject drive... Anyway... DOWNLOAD IT! It's not a waste of your time, at all.

    "Works Perfect and FREE"

by Mike Hansen on October 28, 2006

Pros: Simple, this program is perfect. Very easy to use. I backup to a 2nd HD partition. Recovery is simple, but you need to use something like BartPE disc with diXML included. Amatures will have problems with this.

Cons: Runtime Software should include an ISO image for a bootable CD to perform recovery task. Not a complaint, just my wish.

    "The Perfect Backup Program"

by blarggs on June 16, 2006

Pros: This program is fast and effective. It backed up my 12gig-full HD in less than 30 mins. Make sure you check out the guide at habibbijan.com/guides/driveimage2.php and make a BartPe CD, because you can't restore to your HD if you are using it. Again, this program is great. Even though I haven't tried a recovery yet, I'm sure it will work.
