Although it lacks advanced search methods, this freeware application quickly and effectively uncovers duplicate files. DoubleKiller doesn't require installation, but you'll need to unzip its executable file to run it. The tabbed interface is on the plain side, but it's easy enough to use. Like similar apps, it locates redundant files by file name, size, date, or CRC32 checksum. Filters help narrow your search to a specific file type, and you also can exclude files based on their attributes.
Impressively, clones are returned quickly and are shown in a column alongside the original files. You can move user-selected duplicates to a new location or delete them permanently. Note: DoubleKiller doesn't throw dupes in the Recycle Bin, so make sure you're deleting the correct files. DoubleKiller doesn't offer more in-depth search methods like byte-by-byte or line-to-line comparisons. Still, this freeware covers the basics for quickly finding space-hogging duplicate files.
Publisher's description
From Big Bang enterprises :DoubleKiller searches for duplicate files by comparing any combination of name, size, modification date, and content. You can exclude files or limit the scan to files matching masks like *.MP3, files in a particular file size range or files with certain attributes, like hidden or system files. When the scan is finished a list containing all duplicates found is displayed and you can manually or automatically select the files to be removed. The result list can be sorted and exported to a textfile readable by both humans and spreadsheet applications. DoubleKiller is a stand-alone executable that does not need to be installed, just extracted and run, and does not alter the system in any way without the user's prior permission.

Version: DoubleKiller 1.6.2
Pros: Does just what it says on the tin, with just enough safeguards in the form of filters and such to enable it to be used confidently, without becoming bogged down in continual confirmation messages.
Cons: Nothing wrong with this!

Version: DoubleKiller 1.6.2
Pros: Great Name.
Cons: Lost data, computer froze, 3 system restores - you get the picture - pictures, that's what this was all about, just wanted to get rid of duplicate pictures. I'll take duplicate pictures anyday rather than deal with the after effects of what this software did to my computer. Beware!

Version: DoubleKiller 1.6.2
"DoubleKiller killed nothing but time for me."
Pros: Nothing
Cons: I understood from literature that DoubleKiller would compare files and identify like files with different file names. WRONG! Not having that ability, DoubleKiller was just some more useless bloatware on my computer.
