From Big Bang enterprises:DoubleKiller searches for duplicate files by comparing any combination of name, size, modification date, and content. You can exclude files or limit the scan to files matching masks like .MP3, files in a particular file size range or files with certain attributes, like hidden or system files. When the scan is finished a list containing all duplicates found is displayed and you can manually or automatically select the files to be removed. The result list can be sorted and exported to a textfile readable by both humans and spreadsheet applications. DoubleKiller is a stand-alone executable that does not need to be installed, just extracted and run, and does not alter the system in any way without the user's prior permission.

"Use this only if u know what u are doing"
Pros: Scans really fast and lists all the files
Cons: It doesnt tell u whether it is the files shown on the list is the duplicate file or real file or both, so it is risky. And for me, Im going to uninstall it now.

Pros: I downloaded the top 4 ranked duplicate file search prg's from download.com, configured them all the same, & let them rip thru 200GB of media and clocked their time. Found this little utility to be 25-45% faster than the other 3 tested.
Very simple interface w/ little frills, but that could possibly contribute to it's search efficiency. If you have a bunch of duplicates (like I did), it takes a little time to manually select all the duplicates you wish to delete. Nonetheless, this is time typically required with any duplicate file search prg & the only way to avoid deleting files which weren't intended.
I found the the "Check the First Dupes" / "Check the Last Dupes" option a huge timesaver. Instead on manually selecting all of the files to delete, this allowed me just to double check the selected items.
Overall, good program.

Pros: Small, works, Doesn't install permanently. It dealt with the large volumes of documents, mp3s, & jpegs I have to deal with.
Cons: Not a lot of options but I'd rather small & quick than large & slow.

Pros: Simple, fast, and reliable. Lots of ways to filter files & folders. Very well written prompts/dialog boxes. You can either delete the dupes or move them to a user-specified destination where they are stored with original directory structure intact.
I tried three others Duplicate File Finder - it's free but locked up almost everytime on two different computers. CloneMaster and NoClone 4 - Seem to be good but they wait 'til you've spend all the time to find the duplicates and then hit you up for the license $$ before they let you delete more than a few files. I unistalled them immediately - ouch!
Cons: One thing - As far as I can tell doesn't have is a way to exclude a folder or sub-tree within an included tree - for example you want to search MyDocs but exclude MyPics (maybe it's there - didn't read the instructions)... OK I just read the instructions - says that feature comes with the pro version. At any rate, the free version is capable enough to be very useful.

Pros: I like everything about the product. I had alot of pictures on my drive and I was able to clear the duplicates that were taking up alot of space. I use NEF files and was really surprized it recongnized them.
Cons: I didn't find one.
