Free CAD program that does most of what you would hope a FREE drawing design program to do. Plus it is free to use for commercial purposes. It is better than an older AutoSketch my company was previously using.
Since it is FREE, it also has its downsides. Not much in the way of support, but what do you expect, it is a FREE program. It can be very cumbersome at times and it tends to butcher linetype scales when converting from other CAD programs, but again...FREE. In the end, it still gets the job done.
Regarding the above people who can't get the program to work...its FREE and despite not being able to get it to work on your computer, I can attest that I have it installed and running on three different computers with windows XP, Vista, and 7, so its worth a shot if you want a FREE CAD program. If you are having trouble activating it, you need to google it. I recall having issues once and I found the answer in a forum or something like that. I have been using it for about two years now.
As for the money issue...this is a download for the FREE version, so I am not sure how it can cost too much money. Yes, it is a stripped down version of the paid program, but it is still FREE. I agree that the paid version is probably not worth it. You can get the newest AutoCAD LT for that price.
Way to slow loading, as well as way expensive for what you get!!!!
This company has always sold their products as complete full rounded programs. Only to find out after you purchase the program and begin looking for information that what you need is only in the Pro. version!!!
No problems installing on a laptop running Win 7 prof. Has the look and feel of AutoCAD. Most functions work the same. I found the software suitable for conceptual design but would recommend finishing in AutoCAD. Good for concept/idea rough plans.
Some functions do not work the way you would expect. For example you cannot move walls composed of two lines, need to draw walls using a single line. User needs to be familiar with CAD drawing techniques and setup. Tech support is weak.
Good for conceptual design but not finished drawings. Being free this is a good place to start prior to having a professional architect create your plans.
Took advice from CNet editor's that gave this program 5 stars? Free?
1) Installation issue. 2) Support was more like "try this and see if it works", not a good way to resolve any issue.
This is a less sophisticated program compared to AutoCAD, Cadence or other. The installation was a nightmare that took up 3 days of my time including 2-3 hours each day. Something that should be an easy install turned out to be an irritating time. However, I did download Smartdraw and the results were night and day, i.e. Smartdraw was an easy download, install and usage. I could have done this with my eyes closed. Very disappointed with Doublecad and wish I could get back my times and efforts wasted to get this program to install properly. Can imagine how it would work or the learning to curve because "It Wouldn't Install Properly".
